Once again it’s The Gentlemen’s Curb a lifestyle blog where fashion meets fitness in a BIG way.  We provide lifestyle options for men of size. As of late, we have been focusing a lot on fitness because many of us are trying to keep our new years’ resolutions, but this post will be previewing a new brand for men of size.

If you are a plus male, brawn and big and tall male, there are very few options for us. But, with the recent awareness of the plus male movement, many brands are emerging to cater to us. These are very exciting times! Eyani Couture and S.O.S. Denim have launched the Massive Collection. The Massive collection gives a different spin on the term “athlesiure.” The sweatshirt is a piece that you can wear to a lounge, date, etc. I wore the piece on New Year’s Eve and the response was awesome.  Sakinah B of Eyani Couture along with her sons launched S.O.S. Denim, which is a brand that has men of size in mind. Personally, I think it’s amazing that Sakinah B is encouraging her sons to be businessmen and the efforts of Sakinah B should be applauded. Beleive me, I am absolutely here for it! And most importantly they carry up to a size 5x!

We have all been taught that looking good and feeling good necessarily costs you money. That you should be wearing designer clothes, changing them every season and spending a fortune on the basics. You should be buying out of season, high-end ingredients and using expensive protein shakes to build up.

 

We also know that none of this is true.

 

Looking good and feeling good doesn’t need to be expensive and there are a few ways that you can curb your costs and still have everything you need. If you are struggling with credit card debts, start with the best balance transfer credit card to ease off the interest and then set to on saving money and paying the whole debt off.

 

Here’s what you need to do:

Quit the Gym

Let’s face it – you didn’t really like the gym anyway and there are so many opportunities to get outside and do a great work out that spending money on it each month seems daft. Exercising for free doesn’t have to mean that you go solo all the time. Set up a running club or find a team sport you can join in with for free.

 

Parks are great spaces for running, creating your own interval training exercises and even designing your own personal boot camp training strategy. Get a group of guys together and you could make this outdoor gym a social thing too. There’s plenty available to you when you start looking!

If you want to eat fresh all the time but it’s costing a fortune, then the best advice you can get is to buy and cook in bulk, then freeze batches at a time. Essentially, you are creating a whole bunch of ready meals that are perfectly balanced, healthy and delicious.

 

Frozen has always been a good money-saving tip, but it is also great for your health. You might think that fresh fruits and veggies are better for you but frozen fruit and veg is usually blanched and frozen within hours of picking, locking nutrients in.

Choose Classics You Can Wear Again and Again

Is fashion all about changing and reimagining – right? Sure, but there are also some classics that will last you for years and are well worth your investment. For example, a really great pair of jeans that fit you perfectly is always worth spending a little extra on because they will last well and weather all sorts of different fashion phases that come and go.

 

Equally, though, it is easy to accidentally over-spend on the basics when you could find the same thing but cheaper elsewhere. Sometimes the best value isn’t the designer label, it is the clothes that will last well, make you feel good and leave you with a little extra money to spend on something else.

The Gentlemen’s Curb is lifestyle blog where fashion meets fitness in a BIG way. We focus on life from the perspective of men of size. We know that we all love to work out, but sometimes the gym can be too crowded. Sometimes because of our size, their are too many weird looks. Some of us are self-conscious about the awkward stares. (I am at the point where I don’t care, but some of my readers are.)

You may decide that the gym isn’t for you after you’ve been attending classes or sessions for a few months. This could be because you’re tired of the same old scene, it’s too busy, or you don’t feel like you are getting value for money. You don’t have to take out a short-term loan to get fit and experience a gym with the finest equipment, a sauna, and a massage facility. All you need is determination, a routine, and knowledge of how to exercise each of your muscle groups in order to get fit. Take a look at this all-encompassing routine that’ll see you shift the pounds and develop your muscle mass.

Running

 

It’s an exercise as old as the stars, yet jogging is the ideal cardio exercise. You are undertaking a feat of endurance when you embark on a jog so don’t go all out for a sprint – you’ll last all of a minute. You don’t need a treadmill and can utilize the outdoor environment around you. Focus on your breathing and begin slowly, allowing yourself to slip into a rhythm. This is where some heavy bass music can really help so whip out your iPod and download some tunes that’ll get your heart pumping and your respiration rate increases.

 

Squats

 

If your thighs need toning and you’d like to see some more definition in your lower limbs, there’s no better (and more tortuous) exercise than the squat. Keeping a straight back, you slowly lower your buttocks and bend your knees while looking straight ahead. The lower you can go, the better. Start slowly and keep up the reps. Building muscle mass requires repetition, and you need to feel the stretch.

Afternoon At The Park

 

Pull out the Ray Bans and head to the park on a balmy Saturday afternoon. With a group of mates, you could be kicking a football about, playing frisbee or simply larking around. Any sort of physical activity will get your heart pumping and help you burn fat. Couple this with a healthy picnic in the park and you will see the pounds melt away.

 

Swimming

 

Although you may not be fortunate enough to have a pal with a swimming pool as part of their humble abode, it is relatively cheap to pop down to your local swimming baths to partake in a few lengths. Swimming is a great way to keep fit, active and healthy. A relaxing exercise, you can swim using whatever stroke you like to tone up your torso and strengthen your core. Gentle on the joints, this is an ideal exercise if you find more active pursuits cause niggles, aches, and pains.

While you may be used to a gym environment, don’t assume that this is the only way to achieve your fitness goals. By thinking outside the box and considering your day to day physical activity a little more, you can still shift the pounds, build up muscle and maintain a strong level of fitness.

The Gentlemen’s Curb is a lifestyle blog where fashion meets fitness in a BIG way. We try to advocate for all aspects of health while being bigger than most. But, we cant forget mental health! Below are some items to consider for your mental well-being.  Both men and women worry about different things that can cause stress and anxiety. But the difference between men and women is that women talk more than men. Men, however, take on a lot of the worry themselves. This can then be the main factors that cause stress and anxiety in a man’s life. So I wanted to share with you some of the common issues all men can face. Perhaps it will open up the line of communication for you to talk if you find yourself struggling with something.

 

Health

A man’s health is one of the biggest causes of stress and anxiety in their lives. It can be quite confusing as a lot of the time men don’t like to discuss certain health issues. Men are least likely to attend a doctor’s appointment and share concerns about their health until the last minute. Especially for more sensitive areas or struggles. The way to alleviate the stress some of these issues can cause is by seeking some medical advice as soon as you can.

 

Marriage

Marriage can be a huge cause of stress and anxiety in a man’s life. Especially when the marriage is hitting a crisis point. A lot of men don’t like to talk about their feelings, but it doesn’t mean they don’t have them. There are a lot of factors that can cause stress in a marriage. Things like parenthood, In-laws and sexual frustration to name a few. Many women would be happy to discuss these issues at great length. But some men don’t like to talk too much about it. You can ease the stress and anxiety that a problematic marriage can cause by communicating more. Or seeking some therapy to discuss the issues.

Work

Having a career or even just having a job can be a real cause of stress for anyone. But a lot of men don’t like to admit if they are having problems for fear of looking weak. A lot of the stress people will feel is down to finding the right work/life balance. If work is taking over your life, then this can be the biggest cause of stress and may lead to other problems. Stress in work can easily be solved by reducing workload or speaking to your employer for help and advice.

 

Finances

Your financial situation can have a real strain on your mind. With things like high debt levels being the main cause. Other causes of financial stress can be low savings rates and a volatile stock market. Making bad choices with your finances can cause you many problems. Financial stress can have a big effect on how you live and also may cause further problems. You may find that actually taking control and looking at ways on how to raise my credit score and the options available to you to improve the situation can help you to feel better about it. Men tend to take ownership of things like this so it can cause you more stress than usual if you don’t share the burden of financial decisions.

The future

Men will also worry about the future just as much as women can. They can worry about their children’s futures. Their finances for the future with pensions and investments. Even their career path and life choices can all cause stress and anxiety when you worry about the future.

 

I hope by being more aware of the causes may help reduce the stress in your life. These are things that are on my mind as well, except for marriage. I am not married as of yet. Whether you made any resolutions at the start of the year or not, there’s nothing like the change of the calendar to encourage people to start being just a little bit healthier. Of course, if the empty gyms at the start of February are any indication, most people tend to give up on their newfound healthy lifestyles pretty quickly. But how can you stop that from happening? How can you help yourself stick to a more active lifestyle without being totally miserable? Well, one of the best things that you can do is to find an activity that you actually enjoy. That way it’s not even really going to feel like work when it comes to staying in shape, it’s just going to be a byproduct of doing something that you really enjoy. With that in mind, here are some active hobbies that you might want to try for a healthier 2018.

 

Hiking is one of those things where a lot of the fun comes from the sights and sounds that you come across and being able to stay active is just a side effect of it. Being able to get out into nature is one of the most enjoyable things in the world, especially when we spend so much of our time dominated by technology. Of course, you might want to start small at the beginning, but it won’t be long before you’re hiking the 46 like a pro. Just make sure that you don’t try and push yourself too hard!

 

Team sports

 

One of the most common reasons why people end up giving up on things like gym memberships is that staying active is often a pretty lonely, isolated experience. If that’s something that’s always stood in your way then joining some kind of team could be the solution that you’ve been looking for. There are so many team sports out there that you’re certain to find one that interests you and playing with other people gives you the chance to socialize and make new friends as well, something that’s actually pretty difficult to do as an adult.

 

Swimming

Swimming is one of the very best physical activities there is. For one thing, it’s accessible to just about every type of person. If you’re looking for intense workouts or something easy and relaxing, getting in the water can provide both of those options. Not only that but you can choose from swimming in the pool, diving into the waves, or skinny dipping in your local lake at one in the morning. (Okay, maybe not that one!)

 

Of course, these are just a few examples of the kinds of things that you might want to try. If you look at this list and think that you can’t find anything that you’re particularly interested in, then that’s okay. At the very least, it will hopefully have inspired you to think about which activities are right for you and what kinds of things you can enjoy while still trying to stay as healthy as possible.

It’s The Gentlemen’s Curb a lifestyle blog where fashion meets fitness in a BIG way. With us being only about twenty days into the New Year, now is the time to stay focused on our resolutions. Below are some tips to help us repair our credit.

If you have or fear you might have, bad credit it can be an all-consuming concern that might make you want to bury your head in the sand… but it’s a bit like getting a medical check-up, it’s better to know where things stand and are in the empowered position to deal with them and resolve issues rather than let them spiral out of control.  The main consideration is that repairing credit is a journey that takes time; similar to losing weight and getting physically fit, it’s not going to happen overnight.  However, there are three main principles to follow when looking to repair your credit status.

FIND OUT WHERE YOU ARE: CHECK YOUR CREDIT REPORT

The first step is to check your credit report as if your score is less than desirable you are now in the empowered position to take immediate action and start repairing your credit score.  

 

The first thing is to check your credit report is for errors; as some credit reports contain many errors due to issues such as identity fraud – be sure to check there are no late payments incorrectly listed for any accounts and dispute any errors you find with the credit bureau who can be surprisingly helpful in getting things rectified.

DAMAGE MANAGEMENT: GET BACK ON TRACK

If you have missed payments, then stop worrying about this – the damage is done – all you have control over is the current moment which will directly affect what happens next, and the best thing you can do moving forward is to ensure your bills are paid on time.  

 

It can feel overwhelming, once you’ve fallen behind to get back on track, and this is when most people start drowning or burying their heads in the sand – they let things spiral out of control rather than addressing them, but think of a car with no driver… the longer that car is left to drive without direction the more likelihood of a horrific disaster.  

 

The trick is to get back on track by getting up to date with your bills, even if that involves looking into debt relief programs so that no further damage is done to your credit file – and then having the chance to start afresh and stay on track.

BUILD UP YOUR SCORE: USE CREDIT CARDS

There are many myths around credit cards, but one of the best ways to build up your credit score is to use your credit card often and pay off the balance in full each month.  Financial organizations want to feel assured that you can manage your finances and repay credit on time; they don’t see it as a good thing that you don’t have debt – they see you as an unknown quantity, which from a bank’s perspective, spells out major risk!

 

The more you use your available credit, and pay it off, on-time each month the higher your score will be… because it shows a pattern of good behavior; rather than “no behavior” at all.  The misconception that having no credit, or not using the credit available to you, is perceived as a good thing can be quite affronting when you check your credit report to find out you have a low score due to not previously having (or using) available credit.

 

Hopefully, these principles will point you in the right direction as they apply to almost all people looking to repair their credit score.

Everyone wants to look their best while they exercise. Sure, it isn’t a fashion show but you are on display so it’s nice to dress to impress. The problem is that fitted clothes aren’t brilliant for big people. Because they are tight, it can feel as if you are about to bust out of the seams. On Tuesday, November 14, 2017, the congregation of Bnai Adath Kol Beth Yisrael was met with a tragic fire that blazed through the building. Fortunately, no one was physically harmed in the fire, but the damage is devastated not only the community but the entire city of Brooklyn empathized with the community. The fire took about one hundred firefighters to put out, because of the structure of the building. I witnessed the tragic event and it caused some sleepless nights and some bouts of anxiety.
