Are You Trying Enough Things That Challenge You?

No-one can deny that the world isn’t always going to be an easy place to live in. We are all bound to face challenges at some point, whether they are tests of our willpower, to our perseverance, even physicality from time to time. This is part of why it’s important to challenge yourself. No-one is in charge of your growth but you and if we spend our time doing what comes easily or naturally to us, those challenges can be all the harder. Here, we’re going to look at how we can be a little more prepared for the kind of difficult spots life can throw us in.

Challenge your body

First of all, exercise is an essential part of health. It’s not necessarily about how you look, it’s about the health benefits you reap from it. As a guy, there’s no denying that we’re relied upon for our strength from time to time. Friends and family might expect us to lend a hand when moving, for instance, and being unable to help can be demoralizing, to say the least. But the mental side of the strength exercise provides is just as important as the physical. It helps many men learn what discipline, willpower, and self-actualization feel like. Like you biceps, these are muscles that need to be worked out and if you’ve worked them out in them you will find them easier to use when dealing with challenging things out in the world too.

Challenge your mind

We all have hobbies, but how many of your hobbies challenge you and how many of them are just dead time? Instead of spending all day playing video games or following your fantasy football team, it’s worth taking on a hobby that introduces skills you’re not entirely used to. To get the practical and cognitive side of your mind working, learning the details of using, maintaining, and repairing tech toys like RC planes can be challenging yet still incredibly fun. There’s no denying that sometimes we need a break and a hobby that’s simple and easy fun, but we should also broaden our horizons from time to time.

Challenge your viewpoint

A lot of people nowadays think that having strong convictions means having a perspective on things that can never waver. This is dangerous, more than anything. Having a viewpoint so rigid means that it might not bend easily, but it can break if ever it comes across evidence that’s just too strong to deny. This is true of personal views, political views, and more. Podcasts are great for when you’re working out, keeping your mind off the physical strain. Why don’t you try listening to viewpoints from across the board and give yourself something to chew on mentally while you exercise? You might find some of your beliefs being reinforced, or you might find yourself dropping those that don’t stand up under a more complete picture.

From the essential care and maintenance of your health to the hobbies you spend your free time on, it’s important you challenge yourself regularly. Prepare yourself for the world and nothing will keep you down for too long.
