Can You Afford The Lifestyle You Want While Living Within Your Means?
We all love our luxuries in life, and most of us have a certain type of lifestyle we aspire to have. A nice car, a designer wardrobe, a beautiful home, meals in fancy restaurants and holidays abroad to name a few. However what we want and what we can afford are usually two different things which can be frustrating, especially when you work hard. Short of a lottery win or a huge inheritance from a rich family member, you may never be able to own a mansion or a yacht or give up your job to travel the world. But there are ways you can live a more comfortable life, own the things you want and generally have more freedom with money if you’re smart about it. Here are some of the ways you can afford a more luxurious lifestyle while staying within your means.
Earn More Money
It makes sense that if you earn more money then you have more to save or spend on the things you want. And thankfully, there are lots of ways you can go about doing so- even around your full-time job. You could sign up to a freelancing site and do some work during evenings and weekends. You could start a blog, it will take a while to start earning money but eventually, it will if you work hard. You could even set up a home business that you could run in your spare time. Lots of people are successful in these things, some even so much so that they’ve managed to quit their day job and do what they love full time.
Knowing where your money is going each month is essential. It’s so easy to overspend and before you know it, a large chunk of your cash has gone nowhere at all. Having a budget is the way to resolve this, you should know exactly what needs to be spent on what, and how much you have leftover. You can even use a personal capital finance advisor to help you keep track of things like investments. Either way, you need to keep tabs on your money to be able to spend it in the best possible way. Find a system that works for you, and use it religiously so you know where your money is going.
Unless you have a significant amount of money, then you’re always going to need to compromise somewhere. For example, you could make cutbacks on things like meals out, socializing and travel for a while so you’re able to save up for a house deposit or a new car. Instead of buying a brand new car, how about a used but newer model which still looks smart and has everything you need for a little less. Being flexible on some things, and being aware that to afford some things you want means cutting back elsewhere is key. Find a good balance.
It’s possible to live the lifestyle you want while sticking within your means. Don’t rely on lending money to buy luxuries as this will land you in debt. But do what you can to earn more, save, spend wisely and be willing to make compromises.
