The Gentlemen’s Curb

It’s The Gentlemen’s Curb a lifestyle blog where fashion meets fitness in a BIG way. We are working to make this site the hub for all men of size. If you consider yourself a plus male, a big and tall male or a brawn male, this is the site for you. We are back to share some information with you. Please keep reading.

First Impressions Are Everything On A First Date

Whether you’re about to head out onto the dating field for the first time in years or you are a seasoned pro, there’s one lesson you need to learn. You need to impress from day one. If you have a first date and you don’t impress them, don’t expect a second because you won’t be getting it. Everything is ADHD these days, and that includes that dating world. What this means is that if you don’t grab interest straight away, you will be forgotten. Just look at Tinder. Swiping left or right means that an individual will spend less than a second deciding whether they want to date you. Perhaps, since the dating world is mainly online these days, that’s where we should start.

Setting Up Your Dating Profile

Forget about the info for now and let’s focus on the pics. First, avoid the mirror selfie and don’t bother with the ‘check out my muscles’ snap either. For your photo, you want something sincere and genuine while making you look confident. You should also make sure that you have at least a few photos with friends family that show you’re not a psychopath or a serial killer. People will make snap judgments when they view your photos and who you are. You don’t want to send the negative impression that you’re a loner or that you’re using online dating because you wouldn’t be able to get a date in real life. Careful with those filters too. It doesn’t matter whether they make your teeth look whiter, or your skin looks clearer. They’ll see the real you when you meet in person anyway, so don’t cheat now.

What about what you should be wearing? A suit may make you look great, but you can save this for a formal third of the fourth date. Unless you already have a snap like this at a business event or something similar, don’t dress up and take one in your bedroom.

As for the info, it’s important, to be honest, and don’t brag. Give them real information about yourself, rather than what you think they want to read. Otherwise, you’ll spend a few months pretending to be something that you’re not.

Choosing The Outfit

An outfit is just as important for a guy on a first date as it is for a girl. Don’t believe the stereotype that guys have to make very little effort to get ready. There are things that you can do. You can get a facial or give yourself one to get rid of those blackheads, commonly found on your nose. You can pluck that monobrow and make sure you don’t look like an ogre. You can even think about getting a message. This will help you feel more relaxed and thus look a lot more confident. Hit the gym a few hours before if you want. This will help you tone up and ensure that your body looks great and carries whatever clothes you wear well.

That’s before we even get to the clothes which is an important decision. Obviously, your outfit choice will depend on the date itself. But, unless you are having a gym date – they do happen – you probably shouldn’t be wearing workout clothes. Instead, opt for an outfit that is casual formal. You want to look smart and well presented without coming across as pretentious, and this is the perfect blend of style to create this effect. You can go for denim with a jacket and jeans. Or, you can opt for a blazer over a tee with jeans or smart pants. You can choose to wear stylish trainers or something a little more professional, similar to what you’d wear at the office. Brands like Cotton On provide a great range of choices for casual wear that will work well with more formal pieces of clothing such as a Brunswick shirt.

Is Chivalry Dead?

Maybe, but it’s all about knowing your audience. You should have a fair idea of who you’re going out with before you actually have the date. Perhaps it might be a good idea to ask about their views and female and male positions or gender roles before your date. While some women want you to hold the door open for them, others would prefer things weren’t that formal at least at first. While some will expect you to pay for the first date, others will take offense if you even offer. Again, it’s worth repeating – know your audience.

We hope this helps you make sure that you do make a great impression both in your profile and when you head out on the actual date. Remember, bold gestures can be charming and memorable, but there’s a thin line between romantic and too forward.

When The Dating Scene Just Isn’t Right

Dating is something everyone does in their own way. Maybe you like high-end bars and dressing to the nines to impress someone who could be the person of your dreams. Maybe you prefer picnics at lookout points and stargazing with someone you like under a clear night sky. Either way, there’s a lot you can plan for a date, but only if the dating scene is right for you right now! Being confident when you’re playing the field is one thing, but finding what you’re looking for can be the hardest thing in the world when there’s just no one out there. So now’s your chance to really focus on what the problems are, and how you can raise the standards a little to make sure you have much more success next time you have a date at the restaurant!

Keep An Open Mind

We always have expectations for a date night. Even if we don’t air them out loud, we always have a thought in the back of our heads that this person we’re going to dinner with could be the one… You tell yourself it’s a stupid thought, but it doesn’t stop you from thinking about the possibility. And that could be the problem you have right now, considering dating is becoming more and more a no commitment zone. So before you start looking for tips on how to get your ex wife back, because you think you’re going to be alone for at least another ten years or so, make sure you go into every blind date or speed dating situation knowing the score. Of course, you want a long-term relationship, but if the other person doesn’t, you shouldn’t try to force it. Let things develop naturally, lay down the rules between the two of you before anything serious happens, and let yourself have some fun in your quest to find the one.

Take Your Time

A lot of the time we can feel like we’re running out of just that: time. But the truth is entirely the opposite, and if someone is actually interested in you, they’ll pick up your messages, even if it’s been a week since you talked. You have to remember people have lives to live as well as find someone they’re happy to date, and a lot of things can get in the way of your budding romance. So take your time! Make sure you know the other person at least a little before you take each other out, and make sure you have something to talk about before sitting awkwardly across a table from each other. Conversation is always going to be the best thing to liven a date night, and it’s not all about looks at the end of the day! You need to be physically and intellectually attractive to someone, so bring your entire personality to the table.

Don’t worry, dating can be right for you, you just need to know your options and how to play them.

July 25th

My birthday is July 25th. Yes, Leo Season! I celebrate for the rest of the summer. Some people may say it’s vain, or they don’t understand the reasoning, but every breath of life is to be celebrated. There will be good times and there will be bad times. There will be highs and there will be lows, but you have to enjoy every breath. I want to take this time to thank everyone that took time out of my their day to wish me a happy birthday. Its greatly appreciated. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you. You made this birthday one of the most special birthdays that I have had.

Every special moment doesn’t make it to the internet, but I decided to share this event in particular…

Habana Outpost

So Missy said that she wanted to celebrate my birthday with me and she chose Habana Outpost. (You would think that I would be able to choose the place because it was MY birthday. That would have worked in a perfect world.) Habana Outpost is a nice summer spot located in Brooklyn, New York. There is an area for outside eating and drinking. It’s a Cuban themed restaurant and the aesthetic is rustic. I agreed because Missy gets what she wants, she is my best friend. We were supposed to meet at 5:30, but I was 13 minutes late. And all of Facebook knew because Missy posted a status about my tardiness. Some friend! After she fussed me out about 13 minutes, we decided to eat. Finally.

The Food

To be honest. I am a very picky eater. I have to be comfortable because I have very strict dietary restrictions. So, I had to ask a PLETHORA of questions before I ate. The food was delicious. I couldn’t finish all of my food. The quesadilla mixed with jalapeno pepper absolutely hit the spot. I couldn’t finish the rice and beans, I guess I am a lightweight now.

The Aesthetic

I loved the decor and aesthetic of the place. It was very Brooklyn. Maybe, I am being biased. There were photos of many prominent Brooklyn people. The place had a real Brooklyn feel.  Check out the some of the figures that were painted in the restaurant.

It’s The Gentlemen’s Curb a lifestyle blog where fashion meets fitness in a BIG way. We are back to share some more information with you.  This time it isn’t about fashion. Keep reading for more information.

Get Out And About When Fishing For Trout

It doesn’t matter whether you are an angling amateur or a fishing aficionado, taking a jaunt to the great outdoors, settling down beside a glorious river and having a go at catching some wild trout can result in the perfect juxtaposition of relaxation and exhilaration. You might need to take a few lessons, buy some new equipment or read a few ‘how to’ books, but the joy you can achieve spending lazy days down by the river bank is unparalleled. Take a look at these awesome locations to take your rod, your tackle and yourself to enjoy some incredible trout fishing.

Colorado River

There is no finer body of water in which to catch trout than the Colorado River. With the sun high in the sky, the snow-capped mountain backdrop and the fast flowing river beneath your feet, this is a place to spend a good few days exploring the different sections of the river. In northern Arizona is the splendid Glen Canyon Dam that comes into its own in June. There are plenty of expert guides that can help you locate the most productive fishing spots and may even tag along with you for a spot of fly fishing.

Sacramento River

If you fancy heading to the West Coast, the Sacramento River should be high on your hit list of spots to fish. A wide, slow river in parts, you might even fancy heading out on a small boat to the center of the water from which to base your fishing. Sites like smallboater.com describe all sorts of kooky little boats that could be suitable for a day on the river. With an abundance of caddisflies on certain sections of the river, the trout here have a huge supply of food leading to fat, healthy catches.

Green River

If you fancy hot-footing it to Utah and exploring the sights of Salt Lake City, a little side trip to Green River wouldn’t go amiss. With over 20,000 fish per mile of water, this river is stocked to the brim and full of healthy and incredible specimens ready to be hooked. The rainbow trout are large and present a good level of challenge to the more experienced angler. You may prefer to venture out for a spot of fly fishing or kick back and relax a little more on the river’s edge with the red, sandy mountains as your vista.

Bighorn River

The greatest stretch of the Bighorn River is in Montana with its large swells and deep troughs. If you adore fly fishing, then this could be the body of water to explore. Head to nps.gov, and you’ll find tons of information about the best artificial flies to experiment with. Wooly buggers and grasshopper patterns can prove particularly successful in luring in the biggest catch. Loose underfoot and full of slippery patches, this river is much more appropriate for the experienced angler. However, if you want a more advanced fly fishing experience, there are plenty of guides willing to take you out and advise on your technique and lures.

If you fancy an angling vacation or just a few days away from the daily grind, use these locations to inspire your next trout fishing adventure.

Date Night Dressing: How To Keep It Cool & Casual

First dates are always stressful. There’s never going to be a time when first dates aren’t stressful. Even if you’ve known the person who you’re going on a date with for a while, it’s still going to be a little stressful. The truth is that first dates are all about making a good impression, which is what makes them such a stressful process. When it comes to preparing for a first date, often the most difficult part of the process is choosing what to wear. Naturally, you want to look (and feel) your best, which is why knowing what to wear is so crucial. Today, the key to fashion success on a first date is simple: dress to look cool and casual without looking sloppy. While that advice might seem simple and straightforward, choosing what to wear is not always as easy. Bearing that in mind, below are some fashion tips for making it easier to select what to wear on a first date.

Avoid ‘smart’ trousers

Today, the dating world has changed significantly. Dinner dates used to mean wearing a suit complete with a tie, but today that’s rarely the case. Unless you’re taking your date to somewhere exceedingly posh, you can probably forget the suit and tie and the smart trousers too. It’s far better to opt for a more casual trouser, such as a smartly cut skinny jean (rip-free, of course) or some Kahkis trousers – Bills Kahkis have a wide range of suitable designs to choose from – and pair your trousers of choice with a smarter top.

Keep your shoes casual

Don’t make the mistake of pairing casual trousers with smart shoes, it really doesn’t work. Instead, opt for semi-smart shoes or trainers that are clean and well-designed. Choose a shoe that works perfectly when teamed with your outfit; what you don’t want is a shoe that makes your outfit look too casual. You want to opt for a shoe that is the perfect balance of cool and casual without looking sloppy or making your outfit look sloppy.

Get your top half right

There are ranges of options for your top half. You could opt to team a polo neck top with an oversized blazer – this look works well with black skinny jeans – or you could pick out a simple t-shirt – a polo shirt is probably best though as it is casual with a smart edge to it. In colder weathers, wearing a cable knit sweater could also work well. For a smarter look, you could top this off with an oversized blazer with rolled sleeves.

Coat or no coat?

Depending on the weather, you may want to wear a coat. If you don’t, ensure that your outfit looks chic without it. If you do, make sure to choose a coat that compliments your look and enhances it further. Never wear an overly smart coat with a more casual outfit as it can end up creating the illusion that your outfit is sloppy and you haven’t put time into choosing what to wear, which translates to – ‘I have made no effort and don’t care’. Always pick a coat that works perfectly with the outfit that you have picked out.

There you have it, a guide to date night dressing and keeping your look perfectly cool and casual.

The Gentlemen’s Curb

It’s The Gentlemen’s Curb a lifestyle blog where fashion meets fitness in a BIG way. I hope that you enjoyed our last post about the great time we had at FFF week, you can read that here. But, in the meantime, we have some more information to share with you.

Are You Trying Enough Things That Challenge You?

No-one can deny that the world isn’t always going to be an easy place to live in. We are all bound to face challenges at some point, whether they are tests of our willpower, to our perseverance, even physicality from time to time. This is part of why it’s important to challenge yourself. No-one is in charge of your growth but you and if we spend our time doing what comes easily or naturally to us, those challenges can be all the harder. Here, we’re going to look at how we can be a little more prepared for the kind of difficult spots life can throw us in.

Challenge your body

First of all, exercise is an essential part of health. It’s not necessarily about how you look, it’s about the health benefits you reap from it. As a guy, there’s no denying that we’re relied upon for our strength from time to time. Friends and family might expect us to lend a hand when moving, for instance, and being unable to help can be demoralizing, to say the least. But the mental side of the strength exercise provides is just as important as the physical. It helps many men learn what discipline, willpower, and self-actualization feel like. Like you biceps, these are muscles that need to be worked out and if you’ve worked them out in them you will find them easier to use when dealing with challenging things out in the world too.

Challenge your mind

We all have hobbies, but how many of your hobbies challenge you and how many of them are just dead time? Instead of spending all day playing video games or following your fantasy football team, it’s worth taking on a hobby that introduces skills you’re not entirely used to. To get the practical and cognitive side of your mind working, learning the details of using, maintaining, and repairing tech toys like RC planes can be challenging yet still incredibly fun. There’s no denying that sometimes we need a break and a hobby that’s simple and easy fun, but we should also broaden our horizons from time to time.

Challenge your viewpoint

A lot of people nowadays think that having strong convictions means having a perspective on things that can never waver. This is dangerous, more than anything. Having a viewpoint so rigid means that it might not bend easily, but it can break if ever it comes across evidence that’s just too strong to deny. This is true of personal views, political views, and more. Podcasts are great for when you’re working out, keeping your mind off the physical strain. Why don’t you try listening to viewpoints from across the board and give yourself something to chew on mentally while you exercise? You might find some of your beliefs being reinforced, or you might find yourself dropping those that don’t stand up under a more complete picture.

From the essential care and maintenance of your health to the hobbies you spend your free time on, it’s important you challenge yourself regularly. Prepare yourself for the world and nothing will keep you down for too long.

Save Money: Buy a Motorbike!-The Gentlemen’s Curb

In Lifestyle On The 'Curb

The Gentlemen’s Curb

It’s The Gentlemen’s Curb a lifestyle blog where fashion meets fitness in a BIG way. We are back to share some more information with you. Motorbikes are awesome- they’re fast, they look good and they give you an adrenaline rush- as if you needed another reason to buy one! However, there is another great reason; buying a motorbike can save you money. Here are just a few reasons why.

Less Fuel

Maybe you already own a car and need to keep it. Perhaps you have a family who you need to ferry around, you might be required to drive for work or you could do lots of jobs and chores that mean you need the space that a car offers. However, chances are there are lots of other journeys that you do where a motorbike would be far handier. Maybe you’re popping out by yourself to visit a friend or family member, or are running an errand that doesn’t require you to have lots of storage space. If you only use your car for getting to and from work and don’t take any passengers, then it would be cheaper to ride a motorbike instead. Even if it’s in addition to owning a car, you could still save money on fuel overall. If you’re in a position where you don’t need a car, switching to just a motorbike would work out even cheaper.

Cheaper to Repair

Compared with cars, motorbikes are cheaper to fix. Not only that, because they’re less complex you can often do some of the work yourself if you have a little know-how. You can find all kinds of parts online, click here for more information. But even if you’re taking it to a professional garage, the cost of repairing and maintaining a bike will be far less than that of a car. The only downside is that motorbikes tend to have shorter lifespans than cars. The average car can do in excess of two hundred thousand miles in its lifetime whereas a motorcycle will probably do half of that. Something to factor in when you are biking a motorbike,

Cheaper to Tax and Insure

As well as being cheaper to run and repair, motorbikes are usually far cheaper to tax and insure than cars as well. Insurance especially is a significant cost for drivers, and if you’re struggling to keep up with these payments then switching to a motorbike could save you some serious cash. Of course, there are lots of variable factors insurers will take into consideration such as your age, driving history, model of your vehicle and even where you live. But for the most part, you can expect to pay significantly less to insure a motorbike than a car which is great when you’re looking to reduce costs. It also means that if you are buying a bike in addition to a car, you won’t be forking out ridiculous money to ensure it.

Motorbikes are so convenient, you can filter through traffic saving you time and they’re also fun to ride. Saving money might just be one part of the equation, but if you’re on the fence about buying one then it’s certainly something to take into consideration.

It’s The Gentlemen’s Curb a lifestyle blog where fashion meets fitness in a BIG way. We are back to share some information with you! One thing you’ll notice with men is that they tend to keep things much simpler than women when it comes to the outfits that they wear. Women tend to really go the extra mile with their outfits, adding lots of accessories to complete the look and achieve the style they had in mind. Men, on the other hand, tend to simply throw on a top and some pants and go. There’s nothing wrong with this, but sometimes, adding the right accessories can make the world of difference to a look.

In this accessory bible for men, you’ll pick up some great tips on how to accessorize your outfits:

Don’t Try Too Hard

Sometimes, the biggest mistake a man can make when trying to accessorize is just trying too hard. Trying too hard could mean wearing far too many pieces, for example. Wearing more than one is fine, but consider wearing just one piece of jewelry per body part if you want your outfit to look great without looking too much. In faith gift baskets there are many pieces that men can wear and mix and match without looking too much. It could be a good idea to use the tried and tested rule: look in the mirror and take off the first thing you see. Then you’re ready to go. Less is more!

Know The Rule For Patterns

Mixing patterns can be a lot of fun for men who are just getting into using accessories, but as a rule, the patterns should never be the same size or worn in the same amounts. Wearing one pattern is pretty straightforward. However, if you plan on wearing more than one, keep the number to three or five so that it’s odd, and then use 10% of one pattern, 60% of another, and 30% of another. Make sure they are different in terms of scale and it should work well.

Add A Pair Of Sunglasses

Sunglasses tend to add mystery to an outfit, so don’t be afraid to add a cool pair and see how you feel. If you have to wear glasses to see, take your time selecting a pair that really compliments your face shape and your style. Just don’t be one of those guys who wears glasses when he doesn’t need them to see.

Collect The Basics

It’s a good idea if you can take your time to collect the basics so you have a wide variety of items to choose from when selecting an outfit. One of the most important accessories? A watch. Every guy should have a casual watch and a going out watch for different occasions.

Keep It Balanced

Try to pay attention to how balanced your accessories are. For example, wearing 12 rings is probably going to look a little off-kilter.

Wear With Confidence

Finally, the best thing you can possibly do is wear your accessories with confidence. Whether you’re wearing glasses or a hat, rock them with confidence and you’ll look amazing!

5 of the Best Gift Ideas For the Stylish Ladies in Your Life

Whether you’re in a relationship or not, there will be a time in the next few months when you’ll need to be buying a gift for one of the ladies in your life. That could be a romantic interest, a parent, grandparent, sister, friend, or even co-worker. So having some go-to ideas, especially with the things that are on-trend at the moment is always a good idea. Of course, tailor it to suit who you are buying for (it is unlikely that your girlfriend and grandma are going to want the same things). But hopefully, this list can give you a few ideas if you’re unsure of what to get.

Zodiac Necklace

An item of jewelry can always be a good idea when it comes to buying for a woman. But knowing what taste will suit can be tricky. Which is why a zodiac sign necklace, much like these ones https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ija-small-zodiac, can be a good idea for a gift. They are subtle, classy, and add a personalized touch without it being corny. They can also be worn with other charms or by itself, so makes it a flexible option.

Diamonds

As the old saying goes, diamonds are a girl’s best friend. So if you’re looking for something to get them, then something with a diamond in can go a long way. If it isn’t in your budget to get a ring or designer piece of jewelry similar to these ones, https://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/designer-rings.aspx, then you could always get a diamond lookalike with cubic zirconia. Something that sparkles is always going to be a good idea.

Lipstick

A well-made lipstick is always going to make a great gift too. Whether it is something that they wear a lot, or keep for special occasions, there is always a place in their makeup collection for one. And when they aren’t buying it themselves, it can be extra special to have a designer one, like the new Tom Ford collection. With their chic tube and range of colors, there is something for everyone.

Perfume

Smelling good is at the top of every stylish woman’s list. You can’t just wear the right clothes if you’re not completing the look by being well-groomed. Fragrance can be quite personal, though. So unless you know their favorite scent, it can be a good idea to go pretty neutral and opt for something subtle like EB Florals Sultry Rose Eau de Parfum. Perfect for lovers of floral scents.

Sunglasses

Choosing sunglasses for someone else can be tough, as they can be a personal choice and different styles suit certain face shapes better. However, choosing a style like Ray-Ban aviators can suit all, as they are a really universal style that is flattering for everyone. It is a style that never goes out of fashion either. Good luck with your gift buying over the next few months. Going along these lines are always a good idea, as you can’t go too far wrong.

The Gentlemen’s Curb

It’s The Gentlemen’s Curb a lifestyle blog where fashion meets fitness in a BIG way. We are back to share some information with you. Keep reading below!

Most of us moan that we don’t have enough time. We don’t have time to work out, we don’t have time to hang with friends or check in with family, and we definitely don’t have time for hobbies. The truth is that no matter how hectic your schedule, it’s almost always possible to make time. You may only have half an hour spare on weekdays, but what’s most important is how you choose to spend that time. If you tend to waste every available opportunity, or you’re looking to take up a hobby that will benefit you in some way, here are some interests you may wish to pursue.

Exercise and fitness

Keeping fit is undoubtedly one of the most rewarding hobbies out there. Exercise is not just about defining abs or building biceps. Working out can help you build confidence, it can reduce stress and anxiety, and it provides you with a natural high. When your body is moving, it releases endorphins and the levels of serotonin in your body increase. You don’t have to spend your life at the gym, but making an effort to move more will work wonders for your physical and mental health. If you don’t like the idea of donning lycra and lifting weights, consider taking up activities like swimming, cycling, rowing, tennis, golf, boxing, or jogging. It’s worth trying out some classes and different activities and trying to find something you enjoy. Many of us assume that working out is dull, but it really doesn’t have to be.

Learning a language

Are you looking a for a hobby that will improve your job prospects, broaden your horizons and enable you to develop new skills? If so, taking language classes may be an ideal option. Learning languages will enhance your resume, but it also opens you up to a whole host of experiences when you travel overseas. You can also meet new people and improve your confidence by developing and mastering new skills.

Car maintenance

Most drivers dread the moment when they hear whining noises from the brakes or groaning sounds when they hit the gas or change gear. If you don’t have the first clue when it comes to car maintenance, and you’d love to be able to work your way around an engine, this is a hobby that could save you time and money. It’s worth taking basic classes, reading manuals and watching video tutorials to hone your skills. If you don’t know how to change tires, what to do about your engine oil or why you may need a brake fluid tester dot 3, why not take it upon yourself to learn? If you find yourself on the side of the road with flashing dash lights, your newfound knowledge could come in very handy.

Creative activities

You may think that creative activities are a constructive use of your time due to their enjoyment factor, but studies show that being creative can also help to prevent stress and reduce the risk of anxiety and depression. Many people find it difficult to express themselves by talking about their feelings, and pastimes like painting, drawing, and writing offer an alternative platform. You can choose to indulge your creative talents and passions at home on your own, or you could look into joining classes.

Cooking

Are you a self-confessed fast food fan or have you managed to convince yourself that you don’t have the time or the skills to cook? Cooking is a brilliantly useful hobby. When you cook at home, you have total control of the ingredients that go into your meals, and usually, home-cooked food is much healthier and heartier than ready meals and fast food mega deals. If you’re a novice in the kitchen, you don’t have to resign yourself to eating out of a plastic carton for life. You could take classes or simply spend some time searching for and following easy, quick, nutritious recipes. You don’t have to be a culinary maestro to eat well. As well as boosting your health, learning to cook could also save you a vast amount of money over the course of a month or a year.

If you had a bit of spare time, what would you do? There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a bit of downtime, but it’s also wise to consider constructive ways to make the most of your time. Hopefully, this guide will give you the inspiration you need to consider taking up a rewarding, useful, life-enhancing new hobby.
