Body Positivity In The Gym

In a lot of aspects, when body positivity is mentioned the initial concept that is women are the only ones affected. In no way am I negating the struggles that women deal with, but I do recognize that men share similar struggles as women. Not all men have the traditional body type. There are images plastered everywhere with the idea of what is healthy or attractive. We are all born differently, so the idea of a “standard body” is unrealistic. We all have different body types, but it’s our imperfections that make us perfect.

The Gentlemen’s Curb At Blink Fitness?

Many of my readers know that I would prefer to work out in private or in a playground where I wouldn’t be bothered. Blink fitness began an initiative called #ManCrushMay where men of all body types have a platform to work out in a venue with no judgment. Here is some more information on Blink’s initiative:

In the era of the “dad-bod” phenomenon, it can be easy to overlook the absence of men in the body-positivity movement—which primarily focuses on women. However, a survey Blink Fitness conducted with Harris Poll found that:

80% of males said their relationship with their body could be improved

57% of males said it’s discouraging to try and work towards the unrealistic body images they see in the media

For the month of May (and every day), Blink Fitness is showing support for the guys, because body positivity should celebrate all bodies of every size, race, orientation, and gender. We’re transforming #MCM, #ManCrushMonday, into #ManCrushMay to celebrate men who are breaking barriers, being refreshingly honest, and redefining the “ideal male body.”

Blink Fitness strives to create an environment where people of all fitness levels, shapes, and sizes can feel comfortable as they break out a sweat. The gym was founded on its unique brand philosophy, Mood Above Muscle™, which celebrates how exercise makes you feel, not just how it makes you look. The brand has been challenging fitness industry norms by redefining what “fit” looks like and prompting members to focus on the inner benefits of fitness. Body confidence knows no gender and all of us deserve to feel good about the body we’re in.
