First Impressions Are Everything On A First Date

Whether you’re about to head out onto the dating field for the first time in years or you are a seasoned pro, there’s one lesson you need to learn. You need to impress from day one. If you have a first date and you don’t impress them, don’t expect a second because you won’t be getting it. Everything is ADHD these days, and that includes that dating world. What this means is that if you don’t grab interest straight away, you will be forgotten. Just look at Tinder. Swiping left or right means that an individual will spend less than a second deciding whether they want to date you. Perhaps, since the dating world is mainly online these days, that’s where we should start.

Setting Up Your Dating Profile

Forget about the info for now and let’s focus on the pics. First, avoid the mirror selfie and don’t bother with the ‘check out my muscles’ snap either. For your photo, you want something sincere and genuine while making you look confident. You should also make sure that you have at least a few photos with friends family that show you’re not a psychopath or a serial killer. People will make snap judgments when they view your photos and who you are. You don’t want to send the negative impression that you’re a loner or that you’re using online dating because you wouldn’t be able to get a date in real life. Careful with those filters too. It doesn’t matter whether they make your teeth look whiter, or your skin looks clearer. They’ll see the real you when you meet in person anyway, so don’t cheat now.

What about what you should be wearing? A suit may make you look great, but you can save this for a formal third of the fourth date. Unless you already have a snap like this at a business event or something similar, don’t dress up and take one in your bedroom.

As for the info, it’s important, to be honest, and don’t brag. Give them real information about yourself, rather than what you think they want to read. Otherwise, you’ll spend a few months pretending to be something that you’re not.

Choosing The Outfit

An outfit is just as important for a guy on a first date as it is for a girl. Don’t believe the stereotype that guys have to make very little effort to get ready. There are things that you can do. You can get a facial or give yourself one to get rid of those blackheads, commonly found on your nose. You can pluck that monobrow and make sure you don’t look like an ogre. You can even think about getting a message. This will help you feel more relaxed and thus look a lot more confident. Hit the gym a few hours before if you want. This will help you tone up and ensure that your body looks great and carries whatever clothes you wear well.

That’s before we even get to the clothes which is an important decision. Obviously, your outfit choice will depend on the date itself. But, unless you are having a gym date – they do happen – you probably shouldn’t be wearing workout clothes. Instead, opt for an outfit that is casual formal. You want to look smart and well presented without coming across as pretentious, and this is the perfect blend of style to create this effect. You can go for denim with a jacket and jeans. Or, you can opt for a blazer over a tee with jeans or smart pants. You can choose to wear stylish trainers or something a little more professional, similar to what you’d wear at the office. Brands like Cotton On provide a great range of choices for casual wear that will work well with more formal pieces of clothing such as a Brunswick shirt.

Is Chivalry Dead?

Maybe, but it’s all about knowing your audience. You should have a fair idea of who you’re going out with before you actually have the date. Perhaps it might be a good idea to ask about their views and female and male positions or gender roles before your date. While some women want you to hold the door open for them, others would prefer things weren’t that formal at least at first. While some will expect you to pay for the first date, others will take offense if you even offer. Again, it’s worth repeating – know your audience.

We hope this helps you make sure that you do make a great impression both in your profile and when you head out on the actual date. Remember, bold gestures can be charming and memorable, but there’s a thin line between romantic and too forward.
