“I Am Not My Ancestors”

You aren’t your ancestors, you’re damn right.
That’s an ignorant statement and it shows that you believed everything that you were taught in your history classes instead of doing independent investigations. Yes, you’re ignorant. You were fed the idea that a non-violent protest led to change. You’re ignorant. You’re disrespecting the sacrifices that our ancestors made.
Our ancestors fought hard through segregation. Our ancestors fought through mobs of white men & women invading their towns, burning homes and fields, raping men and women in the process. Our men and women died protecting their homes. (Black Wallstreet, Rosewood, etc.) There was no help from the government because we were viewed as animals. (We still are viewed that way by some people, unfortunately.)
But, since we aren’t our “ancestors,” let’s talk about the rebellions against slavery that Africans held. Those rebellions took place in the United States & The Caribbean. Haiti, Jamaica, Virginia, and many rebellions that the forced African captors led. They had leaders, men, and women that placed their lives on the line. You can read more about the revolts of African people here.

Are You Dumb?

So, if you think by any means that the men & women that stood with Dr. Martin Luther King were soft you’re out of your damn mind! Harriet Tubman would have shot you. That temperament is the same temperament that snitched on Nat Turner. Many of us aren’t our ancestors, the disrespect must stop! How can you know where you’re going if you disrespect those that came before you? You think you saw minor “advances” because of your greatness? Right.

Just Think.

Picture this! Imagine that you are in high school again. At 3 pm there are hundreds of people gathering to beat yo ass because of how you look and you simply want to be treated fairly. And you STILL show up!  Crazy! Our ancestors still went to protests and were abused mentally, physically, and psychologically. Water from fire hydrants were sprayed on them, police dogs forced their teeth on them. They knew for certain that they would be assaulted by police during their protest and they STILL showed up. There wasn’t social media and camera phones to record all of the brutality that happened at these protests. We only saw a fraction of what happened.

Wait, There is More!

But, let’s dig deeper our immediate ancestors had leadership and unified to preserve their future. Our ancestors did NOT give their money to those that hated them. There wasn’t a question about solidarity. There wasn’t a question about unity. When a Black man or woman calls for a boycott, some of turn into lawyers! They become brand advocates and at times support the statements made by brands that speak negatively towards Black people.

We Have Big Shoes To Fill

We stand on the soldiers of giants! Our history is great and it started before the enslavement of African people. Our genetics speak of resilience and strength. We have thrived through so much with the help of God! With so many things systematically placed against us! Being Black Is Litt. Don’t Negate What Your Ancestors Did. Don’t Underestimate What They Endured. It’s Disrespectful And It’s A Huge Disservice.
Much love to the true allies though. The stance that you’re taking for humanity is appreciated. For years we were made to seem “crazy” in our thought process. To see so many allies speak out this blatant injustice is encouraging. I pray for peace. I pray that Black life won’t be seen as minute. For The Ancestors! For The Allies! For Humanity! Its literally ” eye for eye” enough with the BS and the house niggas who think they better cause master gave them their scraps. I see in your profile that you claim to be educated. By your words, it’s quite the opposite. Your looking at one perspective of history and not history in totality. We arent our ancestors. Our ancestors recognized their power and staged boycotts that hurt the economy. The boycott lasted for more than a year. The minute something happens that we don’t like we are quick to accept an apology and we are back to spending our money in places that don’t care about the Black community. At All. Secondly, since you’re “educated” how many revolts or uprisings happened when the kidnapped African slaves decided that it was enough. They put their lives on the line and not the non-violent narrative that you are embracing. They were revolts in almost every state. Revolts in every Caribbean island which Haiti set started under the guidance of Toussaint L’Ouverture. So, take your education and read a bit more. There arent many of us that will risk their lives for a cause. I Never Said That Fighting Back Was A Sin. Those are your words. My point is don’t disrespect our ancestors as if they were docile and useless. The advancements we have is because of them. Do more than being a hashtag warrior. Truly educate yourself and read with understanding not what you have been told.
“They fought for us to have some type of rights,” but you openly disrespect them? We won’t advance looking down on those before us. ALL the fxck shxt is unnecessary. Use a better choice of words since you are “educated.”
