Making Time For Fitness: How To Work Out With A Busy Lifestyle

After making the decision to get fit, one of the toughest challenges you’re going to face is fitting exercise into your already hectic lifestyle. In a perfect world, we would all have hours to devote to our fitness, but, with work to complete, a family to take care of, and various other pursuits to juggle, the 24 hours we get a day often doesn’t seem like enough. However, as tricky as it can be at times, fitting in a workout isn’t impossible. With that in mind, here are six ways you can do it.

  1. Set An Earlier Alarm

While you shouldn’t miss out on the sleep you need, waking up a little earlier to exercise can be beneficial. By doing so, you get to cross exercise off your to-do list as soon as possible, so you don’t have to worry about it again that day. Research has also shown that working out before breakfast burns more fat than doing so at other times of the day, so try setting an earlier alarm.

 

  1. Work Your Daily Commute

The time you spend getting to work each morning is essentially time wasted. After all, it’s unlikely that you do anything massively productive with these minutes or hours. By walking, running, or cycling to work each day, you can fit in a workout before even reaching the office. Of course, if you live too far away, this may not be possible, in which case, you could go for a walk at lunch.

 

  1. Always Take The Stairs

When offered the choice of taking the stairs or using an elevator, most of us would opt for the latter. After all, it’s the one that requires the least effort. However, if you’re serious about getting fit, then effort is exactly what you need to give. Because of this, you should always take the stairs when possible. Not only does it get your blood pumping, but it’s usually much quicker too.

 

  1. Use Your Down Time

After a tough day, there’s nothing most of us like more than lounging about in front of the television. If you don’t want to give up the time you spend watching your favorite shows, then work out while doing so instead. All you need to do is invest in some home gym equipment, like dumbbells or a Maxi Climber. Storing these by the couch will serve as a reminder to exercise.

 

  1. Stick With Fitness Classes

With so little time to fit in a workout, you don’t want to waste any precious minutes roaming around a gym hunting for a free machine. For this reason, you should consider signing up for a fitness class instead. These tend to last between thirty minutes and an hour and have a qualified instructor guiding your session, which means that you don’t waste any time.
