Snack more, eat smaller meals

 

The idea that snacking is unhealthy is untrue. Eating lots of small meals throughout the day instead of three large meals can fire up your metabolism and burn up more calories. The key is to only stick to small portions – rather than having a big dinner, consider some fruit at 3 pm, some soup at 5 pm and then possibly some quiche at 7 pm. These snack portions should, of course, be healthy – a bag of crisps and a tub of ice cream aren’t going to do any wonders for your waistline.

 

Be active throughout the day

 

On top of keeping a healthy diet, it’s important to stay active. However, to really shift that weight, an hour at the gym a day might not be enough. The best way to contribute to weight loss is to stay active throughout the day. This can be difficult for many people working an office job and may require some creativity. Get enough sleep each night can also help with weight loss. This is because our bodies help to regulate hormones such as leptin and grehlin whilst asleep – hormones that are important for reducing hunger. Sleep deprivation can also reduce one’s metabolism making it harder to burn fat. Whilst you should try to get a good amount of sleep per night, too much sleep can also be bad for our hunger hormones. All in all, you should aim to get 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night for a healthy night’s sleep.

In a way, if you’re helping to change yourself, you’re also helping to change the world. There’s so much bad going on at the moment, it’s easy to forget the power that human influence has over situations. There are obviously some things that are just out of our control, the Trump and North Korea feud being one of them. But things such as homelessness we can help. In being selfless, you could change someone’s life for the better. You don’t need to be giving up your home for them, or giving them tons of money. But what you can be a volunteer at your local homeless shelter. The United States has one of the highest rates of homelessness in the world. Volunteer once a week to serve food, or just to help with daily running tasks will help them more than you’ll ever realize. That one act of selflessness will not only benefit them but you too. The feeling of reward you get when doing something like this is amazing.

We all enter different stages of development during our lives. The turmoil of one year can lead to the next, and prevent us from truly expressing our goals. If this continues for long enough, you might even forget the reason for your intention in the first place. You need a plan, or you’ll likely end up falling into someone else’s. You should never feel guilty about developing your aims, your goals and your life in a direction you most cherish. In fact, without a plan, life can become wishy-washy and unfulfilled. For this reason, becoming a better you requires discipline in planning. Another amazing way to facilitate progress, especially if you haven’t had much success with this in the past, is to use the carrot and punishment method. This helps put you in that ‘no-BS’ mode which is intrinsically important to keep if you’re to achieve anything in this life.

 

The gym is much more than a physical remedy. It can be a spiritual training tool if you focus on it right, and optimize all progress around it. If nothing else, setting yourself in a solid routine aside from your job will help you manage your free time to a much better degree. If you’re really struggling to complete your workout, then changing the pace for a few minutes can help. This could mean transitioning between running and a slower jog or switching from press-ups to power walking for five minutes before ramping things up again.

 

Hire a Personal Trainer

 

If things really just aren’t working out for you and you find yourself regularly checking out of your exercise sessions without pushing yourself, or even completing them, then it could be worth hiring a personal trainer. Having someone who you’re accountable to and who will motivate you to do better is one of the best ways to actually achieve more.

Buy a Fitbit, or whichever fitness tracking device you prefer, and you’ll be amazed how much more motivation you have when you can track everything you do down to the smallest details. Even if you want to give up, you won’t want to mess up your stats, so you’ll keep on going. It’s really odd how much of a difference this can make, but it really does work.

The Walking Dead With The Winston Box!

Normally, I write posts for men of size. Men that are considered big and tall, or plus males or even brawn men. But, I decided to do something different along with the good folks at The Winston Box. The Insanity

I don’t want to discuss the current season (there will be no spoilers on my blog) but I want to bring along The Winston Box while we speak about this show. This season Rick’s crew that we have grown to love are at war with Negan’s saviors. An all-out war is how this current season is defined as. Two seasons ago we witness TWD characters Glenn and Abraham beaten to death with a bat by Negan, while Rick and crew were surrounded by Saviors. It was a gruesome scene, Abraham was killed in front of his beloved lady and Glenn was killed in front of wife while she carried his child!

Initially, I was upset! I was angry! I ALMOST refused to watch the season. It scared me because I was a fan of Glenn. I admired his courage and that he always was willing to help people, even risked his life so that his comrades could have medicine. What a stand up guy! But, the reality of it is that the “war” is entirely Rick’s fault. Negan is a bizarre character, but Rick’s and his crews’ interaction with Negan is their fault. Yes! Be upset with me. You can hate me, just don’t unsubscribe from the blog! But, I am sure that due to information from Jesus, Saviors were murdered from Rick’s crew. Murdered. As much as we love Rick’s crew, but they were dead wrong. The standards that  I held Rick and his crew to are no more.

Is your hair as important to you as your clothing? Do you want to ensure that you never have another bad hair day again? You need to get serious about looking after your hair. Here are a few things that will help you look like you’ve just stepped out of a hair product commercial at all times (well most of the time)…

 

Get a Good Haircut

 

I can’t tell you exactly what kind of haircut to get because that depends on a lot on personal taste and what will suit your face and style, but having a good haircut is the first step to healthy, great looking hair. That means you should go to the best barber you can afford and get good advice, a great cut, and a fantastic experience.

Pat It

 

The best way to dry your hair, whether you have locks, a high fade or long rocker locks, is by patting it gently. If you rub it harshly with a towel, that will lead to damage, tangles, and breakages, and if you use a hairdryer, then that will also cause damage too.

 

When you get out of the shower, shake your head to get rid of any excess water, then pat your hair slowly (and gently) in the direction of growth. If you have locks, then you’ll want to squeeze the excess moisture out of them before patting. It might not be quite as convenient, taking a bit longer to dry, but it will ensure that your hair looks as good as the rest of you.

Warm Water Only

While we’re talking about washing your hair, it is never a good idea to use really hot water during the process. It might feel fantastic to have a waterfall of hot water falling over your scalp, but it will get rid of too many of your scalp’s essential oils, which could dry your hair out and make it frizzy.

 

Keep Chemicals to a Minimum

 

It can be tempting to put lots of chemicals on your hair, particularly if it is unruly, frizzy and out of control, but the more chemical treatments your hair undergoes, the more dull and damaged your hair will become, not only from the chemicals working on your hair but also due to the residual build-up that gets left behind.

High-Quality Shampoo and Conditioner is Essential

 

If you want a healthy head of hair, then you’re going to have to spring for the better shampoo and conditioner – the kind that really does cleanse your hair and add more moisture to it. That’s the only way to get your hair shiny and healthy looking in the long term.

 

Feed Your Head

 

If you’re sporting dreads, then it’s also important to roll them and feed them with a small amount of lock gel on a regular basis. This will help them to keep their shape and retain more moisture so that they look as healthy as it is possible to look.

 

Brush Less Often

 

When it comes to brushing your hair, less is more. Obviously, you want to brush it often enough to keep it tangle free, and you want to ensure that you don’t go out looking like you’ve slept in a bush all night, but try to brush only when necessary.

On the subject of brushing, you should never brush your hair when wet, because it is more likely to break. You should also ensure that you’re either using a wide-toothed comb or a detangler – both of which are gentler on the hair than other kinds of brushes.

 

Eat a Healthy Diet

In many ways, your hair is only as healthy as the rest of your body, which is why, if you want it to look good, you need to treat your body more like a temple and less like a slum. Try to up your intake of water, fruits, veggies and whole grains. Also try to get your full 8 hours of sleep each night and your hair will improve in appearance as a result.

 

Restrictive Hats are a No-No

 

Hat’s that are very tight around the head can lead to the development of a condition known as traction alopecia, which basically means that the hat pulls the hair out of your head. Unfortunately, when this happens, it can become permanent, and you may well be left with bald patches.

 

Try a Capillus

 

If hair loss is something that you’re suffering from, it might be worth trying the Capillus. This simple device uses a system of lasers to help thicken up thinning hair. It could be just the thing you need if you don’t think that the bald look is for you and a comb-over just won’t fly (it won’t).

 

Use Serum

 

If you’re prone to frizzy hair and that’s not cool with you – some people can pull off frizz just fine – then you might want to consider using a moisturizing serum along with your other hair products. Doing so will help to slick down your hair, make it easier to manage and give it a little more healthy shine too!

 

Look After Your Scalp

 

Your hair grows out of your scalp, which means that looking after your scalp is a vital part of keeping your hair in pristine condition. Massaging, using tea tree oil solutions to treat dandruff, and exfoliating the scalp monthly should be enough to keep things in check.

There is always an occurrence that sets you back if you let it. Many people tell me to “push forward” when I am going through a rough spell. But, the truth is that it’s hard to be consistent. I was dealt a very devastating blow and it set me back. I questioned, “how will I move forward?” But, with prayers and positive energy, I will learn to move forward! So, I apologize for my brief hiatus. But, I will not abandon my brothers in arms, men of size and the women in the plus-size community. I have been doing so much these past days to stay busy. And clothing from Bad Rhino has helped me when I am out on the town representing for all men of size. At 6’1 and 312 pounds, I am sure that I am definitely hard to miss! So, I have to make sure that I am seen. I loved the burgundy bomber jacket from Bad Rhino. I matched the shirt with a plaid shirt and some  Bad Rhino denim. (Bad Rhino has some awesome denim, its like I can’t get enough of them. But, that’s another post.) The colors went together so well. I felt like an unstoppable Rhino.
