The Gentlemen’s Curb

It’s The Gentlemen’s Curb a lifestyle blog where fashion meets fitness in a BIG way. We are working to make this site the hub for all men of size. If you consider yourself a plus male, a big and tall male or a brawn male, this is the site for you. We are back to share some information with you. Please keep reading.

First Impressions Are Everything On A First Date

Whether you’re about to head out onto the dating field for the first time in years or you are a seasoned pro, there’s one lesson you need to learn. You need to impress from day one. If you have a first date and you don’t impress them, don’t expect a second because you won’t be getting it. Everything is ADHD these days, and that includes that dating world. What this means is that if you don’t grab interest straight away, you will be forgotten. Just look at Tinder. Swiping left or right means that an individual will spend less than a second deciding whether they want to date you. Perhaps, since the dating world is mainly online these days, that’s where we should start.

Setting Up Your Dating Profile

Forget about the info for now and let’s focus on the pics. First, avoid the mirror selfie and don’t bother with the ‘check out my muscles’ snap either. For your photo, you want something sincere and genuine while making you look confident. You should also make sure that you have at least a few photos with friends family that show you’re not a psychopath or a serial killer. People will make snap judgments when they view your photos and who you are. You don’t want to send the negative impression that you’re a loner or that you’re using online dating because you wouldn’t be able to get a date in real life. Careful with those filters too. It doesn’t matter whether they make your teeth look whiter, or your skin looks clearer. They’ll see the real you when you meet in person anyway, so don’t cheat now.

What about what you should be wearing? A suit may make you look great, but you can save this for a formal third of the fourth date. Unless you already have a snap like this at a business event or something similar, don’t dress up and take one in your bedroom.

As for the info, it’s important, to be honest, and don’t brag. Give them real information about yourself, rather than what you think they want to read. Otherwise, you’ll spend a few months pretending to be something that you’re not.

Choosing The Outfit

An outfit is just as important for a guy on a first date as it is for a girl. Don’t believe the stereotype that guys have to make very little effort to get ready. There are things that you can do. You can get a facial or give yourself one to get rid of those blackheads, commonly found on your nose. You can pluck that monobrow and make sure you don’t look like an ogre. You can even think about getting a message. This will help you feel more relaxed and thus look a lot more confident. Hit the gym a few hours before if you want. This will help you tone up and ensure that your body looks great and carries whatever clothes you wear well.

That’s before we even get to the clothes which is an important decision. Obviously, your outfit choice will depend on the date itself. But, unless you are having a gym date – they do happen – you probably shouldn’t be wearing workout clothes. Instead, opt for an outfit that is casual formal. You want to look smart and well presented without coming across as pretentious, and this is the perfect blend of style to create this effect. You can go for denim with a jacket and jeans. Or, you can opt for a blazer over a tee with jeans or smart pants. You can choose to wear stylish trainers or something a little more professional, similar to what you’d wear at the office. Brands like Cotton On provide a great range of choices for casual wear that will work well with more formal pieces of clothing such as a Brunswick shirt.

Is Chivalry Dead?

Maybe, but it’s all about knowing your audience. You should have a fair idea of who you’re going out with before you actually have the date. Perhaps it might be a good idea to ask about their views and female and male positions or gender roles before your date. While some women want you to hold the door open for them, others would prefer things weren’t that formal at least at first. While some will expect you to pay for the first date, others will take offense if you even offer. Again, it’s worth repeating – know your audience.

We hope this helps you make sure that you do make a great impression both in your profile and when you head out on the actual date. Remember, bold gestures can be charming and memorable, but there’s a thin line between romantic and too forward.

Atlanta

It’s been a very busy weekend and I can’t wait to share all of the work that happened. First off let me say that the city of Atlanta owes me nothing. I am from New York City where public transportation is the dominant mode of transportation for many. But, in the city of Atlanta having a car is the best mode of transportation. The last time that I cam, I spent a lot of money on taking Uber cab all around the city and I wasn’t going to pay all of that money this time around! So, I was forced to get a rental. I was absolutely terrified on the highway. When the 18 wheelers drove past me and I felt the car shake, my heart jumped into my throat! But, my parents raised me to believe in myself, so I had to jump on the road. I said every Psalm that I knew and hopped on 285.

The reality of it is that I am too big to act small. So, I have to face my fears and eliminate the mental blocks from something so simple as driving.”

A lot of people may laugh, but I don’t care. I faced my fears and ultimately it adds to my character. I have been in many life-threatening situations. I used to do nightclub security, I have played semi-pro football and I was less terrified in those situations that I was driving! But, I am thankful. There were no accidents and I made it to my respective destinations in safety and in peace. The reality of it is that I am too big to act small. So, I have to face my fears and eliminate the mental blocks from something so simple as driving.

The Gentlemen’s Curb

It’s The Gentlemen’s Curb a lifestyle blog where fashion meets fitness in a BIG way. I am in a sharing mood today, so I am sharing another post!

Hey Buddy, You Can’t Get Fit Until Your Lifestyle Is Healthy

Vowing to get fit and take control of your body is a wonderful thing. However, many fitness newbies make the same mistake: thinking it will solve all of life’s problems. While good nutrition and regular exercise are crucial factors in your life, they need to be balanced with other elements. That doesn’t mean your life has to be perfect before hitting the gym. Nonetheless, you must not overlook the importance of those outside elements.

Make Sure Your Mind Is In A Good Place

Exercise will actively boost your frame of mind and the way you feel about yourself. Likewise, this is one area of your life where you can take control right away. Still, if outside distractions are going to stop you from giving it a real go, you will need to tie up the loose ends first. Financial struggles are a common problem. If debt continually plays on your mind, you won’t be able to dedicate yourself entirely to fitness. Similarly, you can’t expect to incorporate too much change at once. For those that have struggled in recent times, sober living for men should be a far greater priority than lifting weights. Trying to change everything at once could overwhelm you. That’s not to say you can’t still get a little exercise in. However, given that your focus should be elsewhere, it’s probably best not to worry about hitting your targets. At least until the other parts of your world are under control.

 Appreciate The Influence Of Relationships

You can get fit regardless of your relationship background. Whether you’re married or single isn’t overly important. What does matter, though, is the sense of stability. If your life is all over the place in this sense, the journey to fitness will seem far tougher. It’s okay to admit that dating has become difficult. It’s equally fine to use your current relationship as an incentive to get fit. Either way, that opportunity to focus on your health and body can make all the difference to your quest for fitness. Friendships and family situations can be equally influential. Ultimately, if you can get yourself into a place where you are content and happy, it will serve as a far better platform for your fitness journey.

 Focus On Schedule

In today’s social climate, building a schedule where you can work out at the same times each week might not be viable. Nevertheless, it’s imperative that you gain a sense of organization. Otherwise, it’ll become far too easy to make excuses along the way. Getting into the routine of early morning runs can be very rewarding, not least because it sets you up for the day. Alternatively, fitting a workout into your work break or even learning to cycle to work could put you on the road to success. Even if you can’t commit to specific times, dedicating days to certain routines and muscle groups is key.

When your schedule is under control, finding the motivation to push through the wall and reach your goals will be more accessible than ever. Do whatever it takes to get this right before starting your journey, and it will be a whole lot smoother.

The Gentlemen’s Curb

Annnnnnnd we are back! It’s The Gentlemen’s Curb a lifestyle blog where fashion meets fitness in a BIG way. We are working to become the “hub” for men of size. If you consider yourself a brawn, plus male or big and tall male, then this site is for you. We are sharing some information this post, so keep reading!

Exercise Smart: How To Limit The Risks

“Exercise is a good thing, isn’t it?”

If you said the above statement to a room over 100 people, you would almost certainly hear a hearty 100 out of 100 people chorus: “yes!”. In the modern world, it is impossible to overlook the plethora of articles, blog posts, and medical research that emphasizes the importance of exercise for overall health and well-being.

However, in the midst of the near-universal acceptance of the benefits of exercise, it is worth pausing for a moment. Without wishing to negate the simple truth that exercise is good for you, it is true that – in life – it is incredibly rare to find something that is nothing but good. Exercise is just the same; it has many advantages, but also a few disadvantages that you will need to take note of to get the most from it…

Over-exercising

Exercise is an excellent example of an old saying: “you can have too much of a good thing”. As exercise tends to make people feel good – thanks to the endorphins – it can be tempting to over-exercise. This may feel positive at the moment, but can be outright damaging to your physical health – and, as detailed on https://www.everydayhealth.com/fitness/over-exercising-linked-to-life-threatening-condition-called-rhabdo.aspx, can even increase your risk of a life-threatening condition.

In many ways, knowing when to stop exercising is just as important as knowing when to start – there is a point at which one more mile, or one more rep, is actively doing more harm than good. If you’re not sure where this line is, a few sessions with a personal trainer may help you identify your limits.

Injury

An injury is a constant threat for those that exercise, and it can often be specific to the type of activities you engage in. Runners, for example, are prone to a number of specific ailments; cyclists can experience accidents while on the road that lead to them requiring assistance from GBW.law/personal-injury/bicycle-accident/ and similar groups, and even calmer disciplines can cause strains and sprains that take time to heal.

To try and mitigate the damage that injuries can do, keep two central philosophies in mind.

  • Exercise should always be as safe as possible – for example, cyclists should choose routes that are clear of busy roads, while runners can use supports and tape to help reduce the risk of injury.
  • Exercise should always cease if you are in pain. There is a big difference between “the burn” and genuine pain; as you progress with your fitness regime, you should begin to identify a difference. Trust your body; if it’s screaming at you to stop, then stop.

Addiction

As https://qz.com/759633/can-exercise-be-addictive/ details, exercise addiction is a genuine threat. Unfortunately, the symptoms are often difficult to identify, as a dedication to an exercise regime is – societally speaking – predominantly seen as a positive.

However, the difference between a healthy dedication to exercise and an addiction is usually a feeling of necessity. If you feel you have to work out – and you can’t relax without doing so – then it may be worth exploring this issue in more depth with a qualified professional.

In conclusion

To be clear, exercise is an overwhelming positive for the vast majority of people – but due care and attention is still necessary to ensure you get the most from it.

What Is One Bone?

As of late that are many brands that want to cater to men of size. Some brands are strictly concerned with the bottom line, whereas other brands take a more sincere approach. I was contacted a few months ago from Adam Greenberg and I was if I was willing to try out one of their products. Without hesitation, I agreed. I love working with independent brands and designers that make clothing for men of size. To be honest I didn’t have any high expectations. I figured I would wear a shirt, it’s no big deal I have worn a shirt a bunch of times. But, when I received the shirt, I appreciated the personalized letter from Adam and the One Bone team.

The Fit

By far the One Bone shirt is one of the best shirts that I have ever worn. I love the fit of the shirt! I am not blowing smoke at all. The product hugged me in the right areas too! I decided to pair this with some of my favorite jeans from Boohoo’s big and tall section and some classic boots from Dr. Marten. I have no regrets about the One Bone shirt and I will stand behind the brand too. I love the way that the shirt hugs my shoulders. When The Dating Scene Just Isn’t Right

Dating is something everyone does in their own way. Maybe you like high-end bars and dressing to the nines to impress someone who could be the person of your dreams. Maybe you prefer picnics at lookout points and stargazing with someone you like under a clear night sky. Either way, there’s a lot you can plan for a date, but only if the dating scene is right for you right now! Being confident when you’re playing the field is one thing, but finding what you’re looking for can be the hardest thing in the world when there’s just no one out there. So now’s your chance to really focus on what the problems are, and how you can raise the standards a little to make sure you have much more success next time you have a date at the restaurant!

Keep An Open Mind

We always have expectations for a date night. Even if we don’t air them out loud, we always have a thought in the back of our heads that this person we’re going to dinner with could be the one… You tell yourself it’s a stupid thought, but it doesn’t stop you from thinking about the possibility. And that could be the problem you have right now, considering dating is becoming more and more a no commitment zone. So before you start looking for tips on how to get your ex wife back, because you think you’re going to be alone for at least another ten years or so, make sure you go into every blind date or speed dating situation knowing the score. Of course, you want a long-term relationship, but if the other person doesn’t, you shouldn’t try to force it. Let things develop naturally, lay down the rules between the two of you before anything serious happens, and let yourself have some fun in your quest to find the one.

Take Your Time

A lot of the time we can feel like we’re running out of just that: time. But the truth is entirely the opposite, and if someone is actually interested in you, they’ll pick up your messages, even if it’s been a week since you talked. You have to remember people have lives to live as well as find someone they’re happy to date, and a lot of things can get in the way of your budding romance. So take your time! Make sure you know the other person at least a little before you take each other out, and make sure you have something to talk about before sitting awkwardly across a table from each other. Conversation is always going to be the best thing to liven a date night, and it’s not all about looks at the end of the day! You need to be physically and intellectually attractive to someone, so bring your entire personality to the table.

Don’t worry, dating can be right for you, you just need to know your options and how to play them.

City Cycling For Fitness Benefits

For anyone reading this, it’s highly unlikely you need to be told about the benefits of cycling in terms of health and fitness. Cycling for fitness is universally-agreed to be a beneficial choice and one that anyone seeking to reach fitness goals would do well to consider.

However, there’s when contemplating cycling for fitness, there are two problems many people encounter. First and foremost is the issue of static cycling, which is regularly – and sometimes correctly – dismissed as “cycling to nowhere”. Cycling on a static bike at a gym does offer health benefits, but let’s be realistic: it’s boring. The physical exertion to remain in the same place just isn’t worth it, and given how large a contributor boredom is to people abandoning their fitness regimes, urging anyone to use a static bike regularly simply isn’t good advice. The solution, then, is to cycle outdoors – a genuinely great choice, with the changes of terrain offering an enhanced workout, combined with the mental health benefits of being outside… but what if you live in a city?

The Problems With Cycling In A City

Between the car drivers who seem to be furious at your desire to (legally) use the road and the ever-present fear that you’ll end up in an accident that results in you needing to find a lawyer and nurse an injury, city cycling just isn’t a promising prospect. The simple truth is that, when living in a city, your cycling choices can feel extremely limited. You can “cycle to nowhere” on a static bike, or you can risk life and limb by tangling with the traffic. As a result of having nothing but two outright poor options, many city dwellers simply decide that cycling just can’t be a part of their exercise regime.

There Are Solutions To This Issue (Though They Are Limited)

If you live in a city and want to cycle, then there are a few solutions you may want to try. Cycling during quieter times of day is the most obvious one; early in the morning or late in the evening are your best choices. Secondly, you may also find it beneficial to choose routes that are primarily residential within the city. This should mean a lower traffic flow and a lower likelihood of inhaling toxic fumes that may occur when cycling on a particularly traffic-dense arterial road. You may not be able to find a perfectly quiet neighborhood to cycle through in a city, but an area that is away from the heaviest traffic will be more beneficial. Finally, you can increase the bang for your cycling buck by carrying weight on your bike. This means you should be able to cycle for shorter periods while still achieving the same fitness benefits. As cycling in a city can be so difficult, the less time you have to spend on the roads, the better.

In Conclusion

If you live in a city, incorporating cycling into your fitness regime is undoubtedly problematic. However, if you’re determined to give it a try, the options above may allow you to finally experience the numerous health and fitness benefits that riding a bike is able to offer.

Express

As of late, there are quite a few brands that are catering to the increased demand to extend sizes in men’s wear. To be honest, I am here for it. I am happy that more brands are taking into consideration the problems that larger men face when it comes to finding diversity in styling and providing other options for men of size. Express has stepped up to fill that void and provide options. So, as of late I have been absolutely here for it. In the last posts that featured Express, you can read them by clicking here.

No Longer Playing It Safe

In the last posts that featured Express, I feel that some of the clothes from the “extended sizes” sections were safe. There were basic patterns that could be found in most clothing stores. But, this time, it’s obvious that Express had a different mission. The colors and patterns are daring, some of the selections and colors put me out of my “comfort zone.” This burgundy top is AMAZING. I love the fit though. There has been a great measure of improvement. I love that the sleeves hugged my arms. The shirt layered me in the right places.

Gentlemen’s Curb

We are back! It’s The Gentlemen’s Curb a lifestyle blog where fashion meets fitness in a BIG way. We are back to share some more information with you! Here is some information for you to consider.

Novel Hobbies that are Proven to Make You Happier

When it comes to embarking on a new venture, you have always got your mind wide open. You love trying innovative activities and meeting new people so it’s about time you started pursuing a hobby that made you happier. Life can always get a little bit humdrum if you don’t chase something different from time to time. There is no right or wrong way to find rewarding hobbies, you simply have to think about what you enjoy doing as an individual. If you are hoping to take up a new challenge and lift your spirits a little, then some of these novel hobbies might just be perfect for you. You can try them with a friend or go solo; it’s completely up to you. Don’t knock any of them until you’ve tried though!

Fishing with a Twist

If you love being in the outdoors, but sitting still makes you feel restless, then you might want to consider the novel hobby of kayak fishing. This is an innovative activity which is proven to keep you busy for hours and hours. In addition, it is much more active than regular fishing because you are constantly on the move. Some of the many advantages of kayak fishing include being friendlier to the environment and avoiding motor powered boats, being able to cover more areas under the water and catch more fish and being much more discreet so that fish don’t get scared away easily. If you think this hobby might be for you, then why not give it a try this weekend?!

Hit the Gym

Being low in confidence recently means that you have started to neglect your body. You used to be quite active and you haven’t stepped into a gym or gone for a run in several months. Becoming a gym bunny again can really help you to gain the confidence you have lost; sweating it out in the gym will give you the happy endorphins you have longed to have for a while. Find a workout programme that actually works for you so that you can stick with it and enjoy it. Exercising is always easier when you have got a friend to do it with you, so grab a close friend and start up your regime together.

Cool Cooking

Let’s face it, ladies love a man who can cook, so what better hobby to try out right now? You could start by attending local cooking classes and learn how to make basic dishes as well as more exotic options. Learning a new skill like this will put you in good stead for the future, so if you have never been into cooking, it might be the perfect time to give it a try.

Music Marvel

Playing a musical instrument or joining a local musical theatre society is a great way to meet new people and boost your mood. Even if you don’t have a musical bone in your body, societies are always looking for more men to fill their groups. You will be the minority and have more of a chance of success! If any of these novel hobbies tickle your fancy then be sure to step out of your comfort zone and give them a go sooner rather than later!

The Gentlemen’s Curb

It’s The Gentlemen’s Curb a lifestyle blog where fashion meets fitness in a BIG way. We are back to share some more information with you. The hub for men of size.

Top Reasons Why Most Fitness Routines are Flawed

If you have been trying to achieve your fitness goals for a long time, and keep on failing, it might not be you to blame. Most fitness routines are flawed, as they don’t take into consideration your individual abilities, strength level, preferences, motivation level, and the goals you would like to achieve. Before you’d give up for good, you might want to have a closer look at your routine. Find a few signs that it is flawed below.

Not Focusing on the Purpose

You should never start a fitness routine without a purpose, or you will lose your motivation in a short time. Instead of simply following the crowd, you will have to find a workout method that is most effective for what you want it to work for. As an example, if you would like to strengthen your shoulders and legs, you can try boxing or barbell exercise classes. If you want to build endurance, you can try HIIT.

Wrong Setting

You might be tempted to sign up with the gym that is closest to your home or work, without checking out the place first. This is a mistake. The setting and atmosphere will have a huge influence on your success. You have to make sure that the fitness instructors are understanding and experience, and can keep you safe. You might want to sign up for a trial before you make a final decision to avoid disappointments.

Getting Bored

One of the main reasons people give up on their workout routines is that they get bored with the same setting, routine, and moves. You have to learn to alternate the different forms of exercise, making sure that all of them are delivering the maximum benefits. You can go swimming on Monday morning, play tennis on Tuesday, go to the gym for a couple of days during the week, and take long hikes over the weekend.

Not Allowing Rest

If working out is all sweating and no fun, you are more likely to give up. If you can’t find a motivation to exercise, you’ll be glad to know that your muscles will need restoration periods as well as training. This means that you can have one or two rest days when you let your body realign itself and build the muscles the right way. You might still stay active but significantly reduce your intensity level.

Lack of Combination

Doing only high intensity interval training or yoga will not deliver the results you are looking for. It is important that you change the intensity of your workout every now and then. Even during one session, you can have some exercises that will focus on building strength, while others to tone up your legs. This will make you build strength and muscles in a more balanced way.

Not all workout routines are created equal. It is important that you choose the right setting, venue, and exercises based on what you would like to achieve and your current fitness level.
