There’s so much bad going on at the moment, it’s easy to forget the power that human influence has over situations. There are obviously some things that are just out of our control, the Trump and North Korea feud being one of them. But things such as homelessness we can help. In being selfless, you could change someone’s life for the better. You don’t need to be giving up your home for them, or giving them tons of money. But what you can be a volunteer at your local homeless shelter. The United States has one of the highest rates of homelessness in the world. Volunteer once a week to serve food, or just to help with daily running tasks will help them more than you’ll ever realize. That one act of selflessness will not only benefit them but you too. The feeling of reward you get when doing something like this is amazing.

If you like to stick to the free-weight section of the gym when you go for your sessions, take the time one day to switch it up and work on the machines instead. Simply changing what activities, you do in the gym will make you feel fresh and more alert because you won’t be going in on autopilot and doing exactly the same moves as usual. It will also benefit you in the fact that different parts of the gym will target different muscles- you may find that you tone up muscles you didn’t even know you could. And don’t forget that the gym is more than weights and machines. Many gyms will have a swimming pool for you to take advantage of, they will have punching bags for you to work off your frustration, and even yoga flow classes to test your balance and stamina. Change it up now and again and you’ll see the benefits. (Trust me, I am learning how to swim myself.)

Try Something New

Take the time to learn something entirely new. It could be dancing, Zumba, a new sport such as squash or even just how to train your muscles in a different way. Our minds can be very fickle, they will get bored after awhile of doing the same things. If you find you are getting bored at the gym, skip the gym and go for a run on the beach- do your burpees in the great wide world and enjoy the fresh air as you do. You don’t have to be confined to four walls.

Here are a few things that will help you look like you’ve just stepped out of a hair product commercial at all times (well most of the time)…

 

Get a Good Haircut

 

I can’t tell you exactly what kind of haircut to get because that depends on a lot on personal taste and what will suit your face and style, but having a good haircut is the first step to healthy, great looking hair. That means you should go to the best barber you can afford and get good advice, a great cut, and a fantastic experience.

Pat It

 

The best way to dry your hair, whether you have locks, a high fade or long rocker locks, is by patting it gently. If you rub it harshly with a towel, that will lead to damage, tangles, and breakages, and if you use a hairdryer, then that will also cause damage too.

 

When you get out of the shower, shake your head to get rid of any excess water, then pat your hair slowly (and gently) in the direction of growth. If you have locks, then you’ll want to squeeze the excess moisture out of them before patting. It might not be quite as convenient, taking a bit longer to dry, but it will ensure that your hair looks as good as the rest of you.

While we’re talking about washing your hair, it is never a good idea to use really hot water during the process. It might feel fantastic to have a waterfall of hot water falling over your scalp, but it will get rid of too many of your scalp’s essential oils, which could dry your hair out and make it frizzy.

Try to up your intake of water, fruits, veggies and whole grains. Also try to get your full 8 hours of sleep each night and your hair will improve in appearance as a result.

If hair loss is something that you’re suffering from, it might be worth trying the Capillus. This simple device uses a system of lasers to help thicken up thinning hair. It could be just the thing you need if you don’t think that the bald look is for you and a comb-over just won’t fly (it won’t).

If you’re prone to frizzy hair and that’s not cool with you – some people can pull off frizz just fine – then you might want to consider using a moisturizing serum along with your other hair products. Doing so will help to slick down your hair, make it easier to manage and give it a little more healthy shine too!

Life…

There is always an occurrence that sets you back if you let it. Many people tell me to “push forward” when I am going through a rough spell. But, the truth is that it’s hard to be consistent. I was dealt a very devastating blow and it set me back. I questioned, “how will I move forward?” But, with prayers and positive energy, I will learn to move forward! So, I apologize for my brief hiatus. But, I will not abandon my brothers in arms, men of size and the women in the plus-size community. I appreciate all of those that expressed their sincere condolences towards me and my family.

Better Days With Bad Rhino!

I have been doing so much these past days to stay busy. And clothing from Bad Rhino has helped me when I am out on the town representing for all men of size. At 6’1 and 312 pounds, I am sure that I am definitely hard to miss! So, I have to make sure that I am seen. I loved the burgundy bomber jacket from Bad Rhino. I matched the shirt with a plaid shirt and some  Bad Rhino denim. (Bad Rhino has some awesome denim, its like I can’t get enough of them. But, that’s another post.) The colors went together so well. I felt like an unstoppable Rhino.

These words from Prodigy of Mobb Deep verse on “Shook Ones Pt II” resonate with me. Although the Prodigy passed away his words definitely live on. Prodigy was part of the legendary Queensbridge rap group and became someone that help to raise awareness of sickle cell anemia. I don’t think that there is one fan of hip hop that isn’t familiar with the quote “Word Up, Son Word” when it’s accompanied with the sound of a stove lighting. (The awesome part is that I found these words spray painted in graffiti above me.)

In the same way that hip hop was once considered an underground voice. The voice of the poor and disenfranchised “inner city” youth. The spirit of that rebellion is infectious. The same voice that has been displayed for plus size fashion.  The fashion world especially has treated men of size as if we weren’t major. At all.  But after a lot of advancements from the plus size women’s movement, the brawn, the big and tall men and plus men have a platform to advocate for us.

Boohoo has become one of those brands that made clothes for men of size. I love the colors and I love hoodies especially. I am sure that there are part of the uniform for all men of size. I love that even the pockets are huge enough to place my hands into. I can fit a cell phone and a whole bunch of other items.

On October 14th, 2017 was the National Curves Day first Coed fashion show.It was the first event from the National Curves Day committee which included men of size as well as women of size. I know, it’s very exciting! I was fortunate enough to be part of the festivities!

I am appreciative of every opportunity that I am given, but as usual, I was nervous about the event. There were so many things running through my mind. Did I have everything? Was I fully prepared?  I had a family emergency, so I almost didn’t make it to Washington D.C. where the event was held. (That’s a story, I don’t want to get into.)

Aside from my nerves going crazy, I walked and I did my best to represent for all men of size. I walked for MVP Collections, ASOS and the “Balmain for big men” Volare menswear. All of the designs were amazing! I wish I could go shopping and take all of the looks home! I feel like I represented for all men of size!
