The Pros And Cons Of Owning A Motorcycle

Have you ever dreamed of owning a motorcycle? It’s a pretty popular desire, particularly for men or anyone who’s a bit of speed freak. Adrenaline makes you happy, and there’s nothing like the adrenaline that riding a bike can give you. There are downsides to owning to a motorcycle, though. It’s not all fun and games, and they’re not necessarily suited to a family man. But that doesn’t mean you should write off the idea of having one. If you’re thinking about it, weighing up the pros and cons is essential before you put any money into buying a motorbike.

Pros

There are some great reasons to own a motorcycle, whether you’ve never ridden one before or you’re looking to get back to it after a break.

It’s a Lot of Fun

Let’s face it, the main reason you want to get a motorbike is that it’s cool. It will make you look and feel awesome, and it’s so much fun too. Sure, you still have to stick to the speed limit while you’re on the road (in fact, you need to be extra careful), but there’s nothing like feeling the wind as you ride. Why be trapped inside the metal box of a car when you could be getting in touch with everything around you? If you can’t stand your journey to work every morning, swapping out your car for a bike could be what you need to get a new lease on life.

It Could Be More Affordable Than You Think

You probably look at motorcycles and think they must be expensive, especially when it comes to the big names like Harley Davidson. Just like any vehicle, they can get very expensive. However, that doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot of money. You can easily buy a more affordable bike, and you can even go for one of the luxury brands if you’re prepared to buy used. Sites like CleanHarleys.com help you find the perfect used bike in great condition. You’re likely to spend a lot less on a bike than a car. Owning a motorcycle can save you money in other ways too, requiring less fuel and less space to store it.

Decrease Your Carbon Footprint

Bikes are more fuel efficient than cars and trucks. You’ll be saving money and doing your bit for the environment by choosing to ride instead of drive. You’re only using a small vehicle, instead of driving a car with most of the seats empty, so your carbon footprint isn’t any larger than it needs to be. If you’re looking for a fuel-efficient bike, Honda is particularly good at making them. There are also discussions of how hybrid technology could be useful for motorcycles in the future.

Have Advantages on the Road

Riding a motorbike instead of being in a car can give you some advantages over other drivers on the road. Firstly, it’s easier to park your bike. It’s only small, so finding a space for it is much simpler. The slim shape of a motorcycle also means you can weave between traffic, which can help you to get where you’re going faster. Of course, if you want to take advantage of these benefits, you need to be courteous on the roads too. Don’t be that hated rider who annoys all the drivers.

Cons

There are downsides to owning a motorcycle too, which are important to consider before you decide to buy one. They won’t necessarily put you off, but you should acknowledge their existence.

It’s Not Exactly Family Friendly

Riding a bike might be cool, but it’s not ideal if you’ve got kids. Once you start a family, you could still have a motorcycle for your daily commute or just to take out on the weekends. But any time you need to go somewhere with your family, the bike will be staying firmly in the garage. Some people end up selling their bike when they start a family because they no longer have the time to ride it. Having children or being in a long-term relationship can also make you feel more concerned about safety. When it’s just you, you’re willing to take a few more risks, but you don’t want to leave your family on their own.

Safety Concerns

There’s a reason that some people call motorcycles “donorcycles”. Being on a bike leaves you more vulnerable, and if you have an accident, you’re more likely than a car driver or passenger to be injured or killed. In fact, the NHTSA says that a motorcyclist is 27 times more likely to die in an accident than occupants of other vehicles. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t take steps to be safe on the road. Wearing the right protective gear and engaging in responsible behavior can reduce your risk of accidents.

Only Really Good in Fair Weather

You ideally need certain weather conditions to enjoy yourself on a motorcycle. On a fine day, you can feel comfortable and arrive at your destination safely. But anything from rain to a really hot day could stop you want to get on your bike. You don’t want to get soaked in the rain or be uncomfortably hot in your protective gear. Staying safe when it’s wet or icy is harder too, which is another reason to leave your bike at home when the weather isn’t so great.

You Need a Motorcycle License

If you’re new to riding a motorcycle, you’re going to need to get your license. You usually need to have a separate endorsement on your driver’s license that shows you know how to ride a bike safely and legally, which requires a test separate to the one for driving a car. It might not take you too long to learn, but you’re going to have to spend the money making sure that you’re legally allowed to ride on the road. Visit dmv.org to find out how to get your license.

Before you get yourself a motorcycle, think about the pros and cons of owning one. It’s important to consider everything before making a decision. It’s The Gentlemen’s Curb a lifestyle blog where fashion meets fitness in a BIG way.

Upgrade Your Place To Escape

Everyone needs space in their home to escape, relax, and unwind. Your career, relationship, and family will be top of your priority list. However, things can always get hectic, especially around the holidays. Therefore, a room, or structure that’s just for you, is the perfect way to clear your head or focus on something else for an hour or two. A man cave doesn’t need to be and dated concept; you can create an interior that’s full of everything you need to take some time out and give it a stylish and personality-filled edge. If you’ve got any spare time over the festive period; you could take some time and make an effort to plan a space that’s going to make your new year that bit better. Perhaps you already have a room or an outdoor structure; this is the ideal chance to utilize it and change it from somewhere to store old boxes, to somewhere you’ll want to spend time.

It might be a hobby you have that your partner or family have no interest in, a pastime that helps you to refocus and recharge, or you need a place to store and utilize items you use for fun and leisure. Organizing and planning a few things now will ensure that you can head into 2018 feeling like you’ve got somewhere that enhances and enriches your current lifestyle, and you can be the man you want to be. There’ll be the potential to invite your friend over to enjoy hanging out too; nobody is saying you have to be alone the whole time. The following are some tips, inspiration, and ideas for guys who feel like getting their interior design hat on and planning a space that will suit their needs and their style.

A Place To Build And Construct

If your interests lie in carpentry, art, and sculpture, or anything that requires manual and technical work (and enough room); your interior can become a studio space. Forget the idea that you have to be cooped up in a tiny shed down the bottom of your garden. You can embrace your indoor or outdoor interior and create a stylish studio, full of all your equipment and tools. With the holidays just around the corner; now would be the perfect time to ask for gifts that will help to fill your place with all you need. If you’re into construction; a new toolbox could be an ideal gift to find under the tree. Make sure that you have all the information you need when choosing a toolbox

And can point your partner, in the right direction. Make sure you have a smooth and sturdy countertop space; you can utilize any walls for storage, and make a feature out of your equipment.

Taking as much pride in the items you use to create things as you do in the creations themselves will ensure that your man space always has a high-end feel. Invest in a comfortable and adjustable stool so that you’re not bent over your worktop for hours. Great lighting is essential if you’re going to spend much of your evening time in there, and utilize the daylight with large windows, or putting your desk or countertop next to your source of sunlight. If you are using an outside structure; you’ll need to figure out how to get a power source out there safely and effectively so that you can light and heat the environment, and utilize any power tools, equipment, and machinery. Add a sound system or T.V so that the mood is set for your time in there; if you’re sawing or sanding for a few hours, you’ll need your music to guide you through.

A Space To Play

If the last thing that you feel like doing in the evening after a long day at work or during your weekend hours is manual work and construction; your personal space could be focused more on the leisure side of things. You could be into gaming or comic books; if so, it’s time to set up the ultimate room for you to settle down and get stuck into your favorite hobbies and pastimes. Gamers will need a big screen and a comfortable chair. You can add interior style to space with clever storage for your games, decent lighting, and the touches that will ensure you have a great time in there. Mini-fridges can house that cold beer you deserve on a Friday night, and you can have a cupboard containing snacks.

If you’re into comics, records, memorabilia, or any other collections; it’s worth looking into bespoke shelving and storage options. You’ll want to display your items so that you can enjoy them as much as possible without the risk of damage. You also need to consider the right lighting for space; research into how to light your shelving and collectibles so that they reach their potential in your room. If you’re into photography and design; create walls with an impact so that your favorite pieces can be the pride of a place, and everyone can see them as you sit and enjoy music, having a beer, or playing cards together. If the room is aimed to create an environment where you can host games night; make sure that you have enough seating and surface space so that everyone remains comfortable. Your interior design touches will make all the difference to how you and your guests feel in the room; making it less man cave and more house goals.

On The Run…

It feels like I have been on the run! This year has been incredible. It’s been an absolute blessing. The past three weeks have been an absolute dream. My birthday was July 25th. Happy Birthday To Me! I have been to Philadelphia, then to The Curvy Fashionista‘s TCFStyle Expo in Atlanta, Georgia.  Usually, I plan a party to celebrate my birthday, but this year I decided to do things differently and celebrate on the beautiful island of Jamaica. There were so many opportunities that were presented to me and I am very thankful. Yes,  #menofsize do travel!

Welcome To Yard!!

I booked a flight with United Airlines and I regret taking a seat in the aisle. I got bumped the entire flight. I think some of the passengers and staff thought that I was part of the aisle. But, it didn’t discourage me. After watching two movies we landed safely in Jamaica. Jamaica recently celebrated 55 years of independence, it was a very exciting time in Jamaica. And this man was in the middle of the celebrations. The music is unforgettable, from reggae to the dance hall. Amazing. I danced to Popcaan and Vybz Kartell most of my vacation.

(I even got the chance to squeeze some #brawnfit in!)

Due to the Trans Atlantic Slave trade, families were separated in the most horrific way! When I went to Jamaica there were so many familiar faces! I kept asking myself, I wonder if I am related to anyone of these beautiful people (My mother’s side is from this beautiful island.) It was very interesting to be thousands of miles from home and still feel connected to the people. The escape from reality was so necessary. I thought about the parallels between all Africans in the diaspora. There is so much more, but I will reserve my perspectives for another time.

The weather was amazing! The beaches were absolutely beautiful. I was able to see these size 15 feet in the water! It was absolutely inviting and I didn’t want to leave. At all. I felt at home. I felt at peace. I was able to reflect on this year and prepare to finish up strong. And there was a hammock strong enough to hold all 310 pounds of me. I went to that hammock about a good four times and marveled at how strong the wood is! The food was absolutely amazing! I had plantain almost every day that I was there. The sugar cane wasn’t as sweet as I would have liked, but the mangoes were phenomenal. I enjoyed the scenery, it was a lot less hustle than what I am accustomed to in the New York City streets. wanderlust, travelnoire, travel, bigmentravel, Jamaica, Caribbean, plus male blogger, big and tall blogger, men of size, brawn blogger, big and tall model, plus male model, gentlemenscurb, kavah king, brawn model, big and tall, brawn, plus male, king, kavah, brooklyn, new york city, brawnfit, brawnfitness, brawn fashion, big and tall fashion, plus male fashion, gentlemen, curb, plusmalefashion, plus malemodel, brawn model, plus size influencer, influencer, plus male influencer,

I am from Brooklyn, New York. Although I love my city, sometimes city life can be too intense. At that point I realized a vacation was needed. The workload I placed on myself was starting to get to me, I decided that I was going to take some time away to gather my thoughts.

I realized that Delta’s seats are not for men of size! I felt like I was in a box the entire flight. I am going to upgrade to first class the next time that I fly with Delta, for comfort reasons only. But, comfort is definitely needed regardless of size. It’s just that some of us need more “comfort” than others. The flight was only for a few hours, but it felt like a year and a half! After the flight situation, the airplane landed and I was off to my hotel.  The decor of the hotel was amazing! The floors were marble and there were exotic animals on the resort.

I hung out with the locals of the island. They were friendly, I saw the churches and the schools. I was given a taste of daily life on the island. I went to the beaches that were far way from the resorts. Those beaches were the best! The water was so blue that it looked fake! I saw plantain plantations and coca leaf plants, I enjoyed the care free life style the island! The weather was hot and the beaches seemed to call you in! But as usual some activities that I planned didn’t go as well for me because of my size. We made it work, size doesn’t stop the show! I needed some clothing that matched my size and my personality.

And if you are a man of size reading this post, then the slogan should speak to you as well. Being 6’1 and 324, I am what many would consider to be a large lad. I am sure Stevie Wonder could see that! Check out Large Lad Clothing and see the awesome clothes! Jayme Weir the CEO of LLC, put a royal feeling into many of the designs of the LLC clothing brand. I always wanted to ride an ATV and all other motorized vehicles that would get me a traffic ticket if I drove them in New York City. I fell in love with speeding, I guess the Large Lad clothing got to my head, because I felt that I owned the highways and cause an accident. I am safe. No one was harmed, but the experience was amazing.
