What Is #BaeWalks?
A lot of awareness is being raised about body positivity. The truth is that the body positivity issue isn’t something that only women face. A lot of men of size have issues with their bodies and have to face negative stereotypes about being a person of size. Little by little things are starting to change. This year, we have seen a lot of clothing brands begin to cater to men of size. To be truthful, it’s a very exciting time! For years men of size have been forced to deal with a uniform look. This year at Full Figured Fashion Week, we witnessed something groundbreaking. Gwen Devoe and her hard working staff put together a fashion show showcasing clothing companies that cater to men of size! It was phenomenal! The event was sponsored by Mo Vaughn’s MVP Collections and consisted of SOS Denim and The Brandon Kyle Collection. Doesn’t that sound amazing?! The irony was that I could hardly breathe during the fashion show.

I was humbled and honored to participate in the “Bae Walks” fashion show! But, I was nervous. I kept thinking the craziest things! “What if I trip over my shoelaces?” I thought. “What if the light reflects from my forehead and blinds the audience?” I know that I am exaggerating, but it felt as if my heart was lodged in my throat. I wasn’t nervous before the event, but when it came close to show time, the feelings were uncontrollable. I was nervous, but being nervous is no reason to quit or back out in any way. So, this forehead and I pushed through! The audience was receptive to all of the models involved. Special thanks to the audience, they made us feel very welcomed! I am happy that I had the opportunity to push for body advocacy. #BaeWalks ended up being a great event.
These brands showcased contemporary fashion for men of size. If you identify as a brawn, big and tall or a plus male. The clothing definitely fits you. The styles are diverse and can fit any occasion. I am honestly impressed. I enjoyed the camaraderie with the other models and I appreciate the support and encouragement from everyone male and female alike. There were great strides that were made for the #bodypositivitycause and I am happy to be a part. Much respect to Gwen Devoe and the Full Figured Fashion Week team.
