Scott Bayliss Interview

There is always excitement when a brand launches a clothing line for men of size. There are limited fashionable choices for big and tall, “brawn” men and plus size men. When we find out more options are available, some of us treat it as a celebration. Recently, the clothing brand Asos launched their big and tall men’s wear collection.

Scott Bayliss - Gentlemen's Curb Plus Male Blogger

With Asos’ launch, the world was introduced to entrepreneur/model/actor Scott Bayliss! The Gentlemen’s Curb had an awesome opportunity to converse with Scott, whose talents are now being recognized around the WORLD. Please read the interview below:

     1.Where are you from?

I am from Bristol in the UK, 118 miles drive from London.

2. If you don’t mind sharing with the readers, what is your height? What are your clothing sizes and measurements?

I am 6ft5 ½

XL- T-Shirt, XXL Jacket

Neck- 17 ½ inch

Chest- 48 inch

Sleeve- 39 inch

Gloves 9.75/xxl

Shoes- 14 inch

Belts- 40 inch

Waist- 40 inch

Inseam- 38 inch

Seat/Hips- 41 inch

    3. How long have you modelled?

Literally a month!

The good people at Asos spotted me at a music festival in Bristol.

I was asked to do a couple test shoots with them before they made a firm commitment.

A good friend has also started up his own clothing label ‘Visionary’ so I was asked to do some modelling for him also.

    4. How long have you been acting? What is it about acting that draws you to it?

Acting has always been my passion from an early age.

I graduated university in 2014; ever since then I have been performing with my theatre company ‘Propolis Theatre’ all over the UK which culminated in us performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2016.

I also have been working with the Bristol Old Vic Theatre performing and leading workshops and at the same time doing my own freelance acting work.

I would say the thing that draws me to acting is that I get to represent real life. There are a lot of problems in the world today and especially as a theatre maker it is our job to shed a light on things unseen; while also it’s something that I find enjoyable!

  1. How does it feel to represent men of size in the fashion world?

It’s something that I feel really humbled by.

I believe all people should be represented, as it gives inspiration to all. We are not all the same and that needs to be celebrated because the diversity in this world is something to admire which rarely gets the attention it deserves.

I’ve been getting a lot of love on social media recently from all over the world which has been amazing!

I feel like that’s the biggest thing we as people need to do is support one another.

This is a situation I never thought I would be in and for me to receive so much support is empowering me to do better and for the people supporting its empowering for them to see me representing men of size in the fashion world.

So it’s an ongoing process of support an empowerment which is brilliant!

  1. In your opinion, do men of size have enough representation in mainstream media?

No I don’t feel we do but I do think it’s on the rise! If we do get more representation, people will be more accepting to different body types within the media and in general. It’s definitely growing and to be a part of it is a surreal experience.

It definitely helps having a big company like Asos supporting plus size models now, and I’m sure it won’t be the only one.

  1. Was modelling something that you planned on doing? Or did you stumble on it?

Literally something I stumbled across.

As I said I was spotted by Asos at a music festival in Bristol, with no intention of going into that industry.

People have always told me have I ever thought about doing modelling and of course doing acting sometimes the two worlds collide but I never thought I would be where I am today.

It shows that anything is possible if you keep an open mind and your willing to learn you can achieve things you never thought were possible.

  1. What’s a day in the life of a model?

The only thing that’s really changed in my life now is social media.

I’ve been live on the Asos website for a week now and like I’ve said I’ve been getting a lot of support and love which is great!

But other than that, I’m still the same person I’ve always been, for me it’s important to stay grounded, I’m lucky to have family friends around me that help do that.

2016 has been a great year but now it’s time to progress and go even harder in 2017!
